Jewelry storage

I have most of my grandmother's and great-grandmother's costume and gold jewelry. Currently I have them in individual jewelry boxes. I don't wear them often, but I do like to look at them every now and then. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could use to not only keep the jewelry in good condition (my primary concern), but also have them in a sort of display??

Re: Jewelry storage

  • You said gold and costume jewelry, so I'm not really sure if this will apply....but remember that some metals (like silver--not sure what else since I mostly wear that!) will tarnish rather quickly when left out in the open air and humidity all the time. That's why I don't have any hanging jewelry trees or earring holders and keep them in a jewelry box instead. If you found something like one of the wall-hanging frames with a glass door that opened, I think that would be better if you're worried at all about tarnishing.

  • Attach window screen to the back of a decorative picture frame (without the glass) to display pins and earrings
  • I bought a couple of white shadow-box type things at TJ Maxx that open/close and then hung my earrings and used little pins to hang my necklaces - I love the look.  As PP said, Pinterest has a million ideas also.

  • I wouldn't advise hanging up necklaces - certainly the nice ones. I used to work in a jewelry store and we always advised our customers to lay their necklaces flat on soft, plush surfaces.
