Rule of thumb...

Hey, quick, last-minute-ish question.

DH and I are going to a friend's house for a game night. We do it pretty often and it's always a good time. This time we're all making appetizers to eat during games. Is there a rule of thumb on alcohol? Would it be weird to bring jello shots? It's just the 4 of us (me, DH, and the couple whose house we're going to). They both drink, I'm just not sure if that's too much of a college-age drink or not. We were thinking about a martini recipe, so it's not like they are expecting this to be a completely dry night.

I'm rambling. Sorry. What do you think? Too weird?

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity

Re: Rule of thumb...

  • Shots aren't something I do now, but a few jello shots might be fun.  I wouldn't take 3 dozen, but sure take some.

  • I'd call/text or send a FB message to your friend, (whichever of you is closest to whichever of them) and just ask. If they say they aren't interested in it, then I'd say switch to bringing something else

  • I think it might be weird to take jello shots when they're only 4 people...it seems like a party drink.
  • I agree, this seems like a party drink.  I might bring a new beer or wine that you would like to try/share.

  • I can't help but wonder if it's because I'm old.  I haven't had a jello shot since college (over 15 years ago) and I think it would be a blast.  I had to laugh when a friend just pinned this jello shot recipe.  She's old too though.

  • I think it could be fun for the reasons PPs said no, it'd be unexpected.  I say go for it, like 2 a piece maybe.  If you know them really well and think they'd have a sense of humor about it.  If you are responsible for drinks, maybe take a six pack or bottle of wine too though.  Just for another option.
  • I'm torn too: it is a party drink, but hey, why not?!

I think if you are going to do jello-shots, fancy them up a little: Check out my cocktail board (<clicky>), I found a couple cute shot recipes :)
