? About food

I have a 4 y/o boxer we just in the last month switched over completely to chicken soup from pro plan for sensitive stomachs (seriously the only thing I've tried up until then that would t make his poop liquid) I've tried blue buffalo, royal canin boxer and puppy when he was younger, he's been on prescription diets he's always had stomach issues...

He was doing fine at first on the chicken soup food, but within the last week he's been REALLY gassy and in the last week he's thrown up like 3 times that I can think of, and hes eating at his paws again (which is what made me switch from pro plan) so my question is how long do I wait to change his food? I want to try a grain free food I've seen at petsmart u want to say its nutro? Do you think I should be done with chicken soup and try that grain free food? I just want my guy to be comfortable..

Re: ? About food

  • When I first switched my dog to Chicken soup he was really gassy. But now that his transition is complete it's much better. The chewing sounds like their might be an allergy. Sorry I'm not much help.

  • That's what I think, which is why I wanted to try a grain free food to see how he does.
  • I would not only try grain free but also chicken free. Chicken is a very common allergy for dogs to have. Personally I feed my dogs and all fosters Taste of the Wild. I feel the Pacific Stream formula and really like it. A lot of ladies on this board feed TOTW because it's a great food and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately I don't think you can get it at Petco. Are there other places besides Petco/Petsmart around you? We have a local pet supply chain here and that's where I get our TOTW (sometimes I buy from wag.com or amazon too it just depends).

I'd go grain free for sure which chicken soup is not.
  • We have a bunch of different places to get dog food around here. I'll try to find a store that has the  totw. Are they all grain free or are just certain brands?

I knew that chicken soup was not grain free, just wanted to try a better quality food than what he had to see if that would help him.

  • Honestly, if he is always having stomach issues.  In addition to a grain free, chicken free food.  I would add in probiotics and digestive enzymes - such as Wholistic Pet Digest All Plus.  I give this in addition to prebiotics and fiber for a healthy digestive system for my boy.

    Where would I find these?

  • Local dog stores that aren't chains sometimes have supplements like Wholistic Pet products.  You can also buy online, places like cherrybrook.com, amazon, naturalk9supplies.com, etc.
