alaska-denali & seward in 5 days on a budget?
Is it possible to do a trip like this for less than $2000 a person? We were thinking of taking the train for part of it & the bus for the rest. Anyone done this & have any links or info? TIA!
Re: alaska-denali & seward in 5 days on a budget?
It *may* be possible. Based on what type of accommodations you're looking for. Does the $2k include flights to/from AK?
We were in AK in 2009 and bought the Alaska Tour Saver. It costs $100, but saved us well over $2k (on our 3 week trip). In 2009 in had 2-for-1 train tickets that we used to get between Anchorage and Denali. It also had 2-for-1 lodge/hotel nights in Denali and Seward, as well as 2-for-1 fishing charters, Kenai Fjords catamaran tours, etc.
Airfare is free....we've got miles to pay for tickets:)
That Tour Saver looks pretty interesting! Thank you SO much!
Are Seward and Denali all you really want to see, 5 days is a very short amount of time. Do you have dates in mind? Hotels can be pretty pricey in AK in the summer.
As far as transportation, the train is slow and will eat up your time. The train ride to Seward is way prettier than the ride to Denali, as well as much much shorter. Only about 1/4 of the train ride to Denali is really pretty and scenic. A one way ticket to Seward from Anchorage usually runs $80-100. One way to Denali was $110 - 150 last summer.
By bus do you mean hiring a tour company?
I'd be happy to answer any questions, I lived in Alaska for over 20 years. I'm actually packing headed back up next week.
