Need advice - WWYD?

So my H has been in the process of getting a security clearance and applying for a government job for almost a year now.  He finally has his start date and we bought a home about two hours away.  I told one of my co-workers because she recently went though the home-buying process (we're first time homebuyers) and because I knew I could trust her not to say anything to anyone else.  I did not want to tell my boss because I know she enjoys nothing more than to gossip and I'm not sure what I can tell people about my H's job yet.

I ended up having to tell my boss because my employer wanted my original copy of my nursing license and I wasn't sure if I needed the original to transfer it to the state we're moving to.  I explicitly told her numerous times that I did not want any of our other co-workers to know.  I obviously don't have my license in the state we're moving to yet and I don't know when I'm leaving my current job because of this.

She told a few people outside of our department, I was a little upset but let it go.  Yesterday I found out from the co-worker I did tell that all the other people in our department know but "it's supposed to be a secret".

Would you confront your boss?  I'm basically in a satellite office and she's only here with me once or twice a week.  Should I just let this go, knowing that I'm going to be moving and getting another job soon?

ETA:  Part of me is a little bummed too that I couldn't share the news myself.

  • I would let it go. I know it is frustrating, sorry.

  • I would let it go, it's not going to matter in a few months anyways.  Good luck to your H on his clearance, my H had to do those and it was a pain each time.

  • You just learned a harsh lesson: never tell one coworker what you wouldn't want everyone to know.

It wasn't my coworker that told, it was my boss.  I had to tell her why I didn't want to give HR my original nursing license.

I can totally trust my coworker, it's my loose-lipped boss that I can't trust.

  • I would let it go.  And obviously it's not a secret anymore.

Yeah that's for sure.  It was the secretary from our main office that told my coworker she knew and "it was supposed to be a secret".  I'm just going to let it go.  I've been there over five years and I feel a little hurt and betrayed.  We work for a small grant program and we're all pretty close.
