So my H's friend who lives in New Zealand is going to be on House Hunters International. And get this...

It's staged. He already owns his home. They flew him to Arizona for part of the taping and then they filmed him looking at 2 homes and his OWN home for the show. Then he picks the home he already owns in the end.

I feel duped.

Do you remember when I was house shopping I considered doing this for a minute? We decided against it, but felt the same way about being duped.

Thats a pretty good deal getting a free flight that far away though.

Yes. It is a good deal for a flight back to AZ. And I think he is from there. So that works out. He is always game for a good scheme so this is right up his alley. For instance, while in the Peace Corps in Honduras he started a donkey polo competition as a way to bring income to his village. Now this donkey polo has exploded and is found in travel books like Lonley Planet as a "must experience" when visiting Honduras.

I've known for a few years now that they do this, as they do with most of the other "homebuying" shows on HGTV. I think it's pretty lame. LoL.

I remember when Jen told us about this. Jen, didn't they say you already had to have bought your house or be under contract and they would show 2 random houses and the one you just bought? I remember you said if the house doesn't have furniture in it, then most likely that is the house they will pick, lol.

If I remember correctly, we had to be under contract. The other two houses are just comp. houses. I still like to watch the shows, even if they are misleading.

Huh...I know a guy who was on the regular version of that show. He is already moving out of the house that they "bought" on the show (he's a professor and got a new position). I was thinking about the show and the trouble they went through...now I know differently.

Yeah my SIL told me when she looked into it online it says you have to already be under contract...I now HATE watching the show because I'm constantly saying "oh please..you already know which one you want!".
