iPhone case

So my iPhone is "in the mail."  What type of case should I get?  I don't want to break the damn thing.

Thanks again for the help!

Re: iPhone case

  • I have a hard case on mine.  It's hard plastic, but has a micro-textured coating which I find makes it easier to hold onto (doesn't slip out of my hands).  I don't drop my phone a LOT, but I I have chipped a few cases.  I kind of treat them like bike helmets -- if it gets chipped or cracked I replace it (it's worth the 10 or 15 pounds to me to make sure my phone doesn't get chipped!).

I'm not sure if they ship internationally, but if you go to the Kodak website you can actually upload your own picture and they will make you an iPhone case (hard plastic) with the picture embedded in it.

My sister has one and it's awesome:-)   Looks very durable as well, plus you'll never accidentally pick up the wrong phone.

  • Both DH and I have screen protectors and a film over the back (it comes as a pack) then we have a hard plastic clip on case too..like this http://www.amazon.com/iLuv-Gossamer-Clear-Hardshell-iPhone/dp/B004J68KCQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328369367&sr=8-2

I just sold my iPhone4 to fund my iPhone 4s and sold it "as new" no scratches or anything from a year of good use.

I like the case because it protects the phone without adding too much bulk.

BIL has an Otterbox and loves it but he's HARD on phones (shoes horses for a living) so needs the extra protection.

  • I've an iPhone 3GS and have a hard cover on it and scratch resistant film over the face. The cover covers the back and the edges of the front. It has saved my phone for sure. Several scratches on the front of the case when I dropped it one morning waiting for the bus... Hope when I get a 4 I can get a hard case too. My dh has a soft cover and it doesn't give as much protection...

  • I just want to add that the iPhone is a thing of beauty.  Honestly, it is such an amazing design, and part of what makes it so awesome is how you interact with it, how it feels in your hands, etc.   Ideally, you wouldn't use ANY case on it...you know, to keep your iPhone experience "pure."  However, as much as those things cost, you REALLY want to make sure they are protected.

I find that the low-profile cases interfere less with how I interact with my phone.  I like how it feels like my phone is almost "naked", while still being protected.   The Otter Boxes are tough as hell, but they just make your phone feel so big and clunky, and not the elegant piece of glass and metal that it was designed to be.

I DEFINITELY recommend some kind of protecting film on the face.  I know too many people who have dropped their phone on the glass face and had it completely shatter.  I don't know for sure that a film will prevent this, but I suspect it will help.

  • DH and I both have iPhone 4's, and we have different types of cases.

He went for the bumper case, which only covers the sides, but leaves the front and back open. Something similar to this:

I have an iSkin, which covers the whole phone, as well as a plastic film cover for the front. Mine is pink and looks like this:

I've dropped it and it gets tossed around in my purse, and this case keeps it safe and scratch free. I like it  :-)

And now that I'm shopping, I think I might need a new case :-)

  • I have a regular, slim case... cheap and easy fits into my iphone wallet.

For long trips/use, I like mophie juice pack air... it does add bulk, but it re-charges you phone w/o the plug in.  It's pricey, but it does work well for travel.  The mophie doesn't have a 'face/screen' protector, so I just leave the normal "film" on.

  • I have an otterbox.  It was the only case they had and it's not cheap!  I think it's worth it, though.  It seems really sturdy.
  • Anything in the barely there line by case-mate!
