FI and I are gonna have a party next weekend...last time, I made a full dinner for like 12 people, and that was a lot of work and clean up! So this time we're just gonna do chips, dips, apps...any suggestions? I was thinking like 4 or 5 dips, a variety of chips, but IDK what sort of other things to put out!
Re: Apps party.
What time of night? Are people aware that you are going to only be serving apps? Chips and dip really isn't much of anything and 4-5 types seems like way too much. I would try to do a mix of hot and cold and light and heavy.
I'd probably do one hot dip- spinach artichoke or that chicken wing one
one cold dip like a hummus that you could also put a few veggies with
Maybe one other cold like a black bean salsa
Then I'd probably do some things on skewers- fruit, tortellini with tomatoes, chunks of ham/turkey/beef with some mix of cheese
Then I'd add something hot- spanikopita bites and quiche come to mind.
Then something sweet for dessert.
I don't know what you did for the dinner party, but there are certainly dinners that can be made simpler than apps. If you've planned a party at dinner time I'd seriously consider finding a simple meal to serve.
Wings always go over well. I usually do some buffalo and a milder barbeque one plus ranch, blue cheese, and celery. Anything wrapped in bacon seems to be popular too.
Do you have a crockpot? I would do some sort of app with that. Plus you can buy liners to make clean up even easier. Buffalo chicken dip and Rotel dip tend to be popular.
I'm a big fan of fresh fruits and veggies. They can be cut up ahead of time and served with dips that can be made ahead of time too. Finger foods tend to go over better than something requiring utensils, so I usually do fresh fruit with dip instead of fruit salad.
Deviled eggs are easy to make and inexpensive.
