Poll: Church

Just wondering.  DH is getting pretty insistent on going to church.  I'm not excited at all.  So do you go?[Poll]

Re: Poll: Church

  • We go almost every Sunday it has helped us meet other people with kid Elle's age and it helps Elle to meet and play with other kids, it's more important to me than DH

  • I was raised Catholic and DH was raised Southern Baptist. Neither of us have a particularly strong connection to either religion now.  I would like for us to join a church, but DH works 7-7 on Sunday. I don't want to go alone, so for now I am churchless and might actually explode if I walked in to one.  ha.

  • I clicked SS because I go with the kids maybe twice a month if that. DH and I work opposite weekends, so I have to go solo with the 3 kids. Sometimes I feel strong enough to attempt it, sometimes not. It's usually a fight to get them all dressed in something nice and get there on time with no tears from anyone, including me. Once I get the boys into the nursery, Lily and I enjoy the service until my cell phone vibrates because one or both boys are acting up/unconsolable. I miss going though. I love seeing and talking to many of our other church members.

FIL is a minister, so DH was raised going to church every single Sunday whether he wanted to or not. I was raised the complete opposite and was so nervous about DH wanting me to go all of the time once we lived together. DH goes to church less than I do now!

Finally a Mrs as of June 7, 2008

  • its your standard catholic church with no child care or cry room.  we used to go most sundays even when Jane was a baby. Now though no way. Jim attempts with her every few months and is reminded that she just can't be in the pew that long.
  • DH and I were both raised Catholic, but I grew up going to church every Sunday and he didn't. I stopped going after I was confirmed and started up again when we were planning our wedding. I went pretty regularly up until we moved in '09, but haven't found a church in our area yet.....haven't really tried either. I'd like to find one, though because I have every intention of raising our any children we have in the church.

Yep the cry room makes all the difference although now its the run all around room for us. Our newer catholic church has one it's a life saver

I grew up going to church every Sunday, whether I wanted to or not! I continued to go to church in college, but I quit once I moved up to Washington. Sam didn't really grow up going to church much. When we had Marshall I wanted to start going, but Sam wasn't really interested, and like Brooke said, I didn't want to go by myself. About 6 months ago Sam brought up going to church. I later found out that it was because he wants me to meet friends in our area!

I have since started going to church (by myself because Sam doesn't want to miss out on football on Sunday's!).  I really like Marshall getting to play with other kids.  I also started doing Zumba at the church, so I am getting to know more women, which is nice.

  • I go to Indian Trial Community Church...it's right by the library on Indian Trail.

You should definately come!  It's Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30.  Then at 10:30 there is a TRX class, which is a strength class using straps and body weight...a great workout between the two!

Exactly this.  Our church really doesn't have any helpful things for parents of small kids and it makes it impossible to go to church without being humiliated because your 2 year old wants to climb on the pew in front of you or make a ton of noise during communion or whatever.  If I didn't have this problem, I would go to church 3 Sundays out of the month (which is pretty much what I grew up doing.)  We're going to try to start going again soon, but with a newborn and Natalie... I just don't know.

  • Ditto Amy. I started taking Landon regularly, and DH comes sometimes.

Ditto Megan and Kim. Liam is also working on his indoor voice, and needs constant reminding. So top of the crazy pew climbing, running down the aisles, and the outdoor voice in church = no bueno!

Both DH and I grew up going to church every Sunday, and we always talk about going back. But I would really like to go as a family, and spend that time together.  Not sure when that will happen...

  • I want our baby baptized and I valued being raised going to church every week.  I'm trying to make an effort to go more often.

  • I'm not anti-God, I'm just anti-church.  I grew up very active in my church, and was very close to my youth pastor.  I even visited him after he moved to Florida.  Yeah, he went to prison for a few years for molesting a boy.  Then I was a waitress for a while and I'd take drunken idiots over the church people crowd anytime.  There is a huge difference between people who love God and church people.

So... yeah.  We'll see if I catch on fire in the morning.

  • DH and I were both raised Catholic (me going to private Catholic school) and going to church every week. However, we are no longer Catholic (although a "true" Catholic would say you are always one) and attend an interdenominational Christian church now. We stopped going to church due to not finding the right Catholic church for us. We left and tried new places ( we both had reasons for leaving the Catholic religion) and found the perfect place for us.

We've been attending there for a little over 1.5 years and it's been fantastic. We go every week, there is no "are we going this week?", we both genuinely want to go. The church has a huge kids program (from birth until the end of high school), which we both volunteer in. We attend 1 service and volunteer at a 2nd (DH in the nursery, me in the Ones age group). DH had recently moved up to become one of the leaders for the nursery, and I'm starting to volunteer 1 day a week in addition to Sunday.

We met our best friends when joining a small group with church. I'm part of the Moms group and DH is part of the Fathers group.

For us, finding the right fit for us has made all the difference. We truly feel like we are better people, learning so much, etc. Ellie will be baptized there this month!

I could go on for a while. I never thought I'd be someone who could go on and on about church, but we've just found the perfect place for us, great messages, etc.

  • Same with the other traditional Catholic church ladies here. It's so hard to keep Alex occupied. She's old enough now that one of us can take her down to the children's liturgy, but she only stays for a bit before she wants to go potty or something. Last week she was trying to play tag with her 6 year old cousin. Fun times during quiet prayer before communion and your child yells "Tag! You're it."

I also don't feel very connected and there isn't a sense of community. H is a Knight and he grew up in that church, so he has no idea what I'm talking about when I say I don't feel like it's a family or whatever. I hear about others' church experience, prayer groups, church outings, nursery, etc. and I'm so jealous of that. Alas, H would never consider a different church.

Add that my parents divorced, my father cheated on my mother, my cousin committed suicide and my uncle is gay. So, basically my whole family is going to hell according to our priest. Not something that makes me want to come in every week and listen to.

Ick. I wouldn't be ok with that. There are definitely more liberal Catholic churches out there. I'm sorry you're stuck with a closed-minded priest. :(

  • We used to go every week until the babies came. Now we are waiting for RSV season to be over.
