I saw a foreclosure online today that I am interested in. I know that they can be a mess and I drove by since the address itself wasn't listed. I wasn't able to pick it out via a drive by. I did contact the realtor to express my interest. I know about the area since I have family that live two blocks away.
This would be my first home purchase. I was pre-approved two years ago for a mortgage. I paid off a significant amount of debt in that time and my credit score is good so I expect to get pre-approved for the same amount if not more.
I am clueless about the process. Should I be pre-approved prior to even looking at it? Please educate me on this process.
TIA!
Re: thinking of buying a foreclosure
You'll definitely need a pre-approval. Several of the foreclosure listings I've seen have required it to be from a certain bank, so you might want to check with the listing agent to see if that's the case.
If it's not a Homepath Foreclosure you might need a larger than typical first deposit in the form of cashier's check to put in an offer.
Thanks! I will definitely ask when I hear from her before getting pre-approval from just any bank.
