...and a post that seemingly goes on and on my friends. ![]()
Our clients loved the costumes that we made, even gave us 'a tip' on top of paying us, but the tutu is a bit hard for the girl to do her variation for her competition (a lot of jumps), so now we have to crank out a dance dress of some sort tonight/tomorrow. I have been working on a prototype today, instead of cleaning and organizing my sewing stuff like I had planned.
I think the hardest thing will be making it something that she can love as much as she loves the tutu. She loves everything about it, (even slept with it next to her bed) and will get a lot of use out of it...just not at the competition this Friday. Her dad was so sweet...he asked us to make her something new, so that she didn't have to have added stress of working on the dance in her tutu. He even asked if we still had some of the same fabric, because they thought it was so beautiful. We have the same trims and some others that we had considered using on the tutu, and a little bit of the fabric, so we may be able to make it similar, yet different enough that they won't look too similar.
Disclaimer: these costumes were still not 100% complete when the photos were taken, and I promise they fit well (although the tutu bodice could use some clipping in the seams, but we tried to make it so that it will fit her for a few years at least so we didn't want to clip too much).
I wish you could get the full bling of this costume...it sparkles really nicely under the lights. The pink socks are not part of the costume.lol
The gold fabric was left over from my oldest daughter's wedding dress, and the beaded fabric on the tutu plate was made from my other daughter's actual wedding dress (she's divorced and out of the country and will never know
...I don't even think she knew that the dress was still around).
The burgundy leotard will not be worn underneath. ;p
This costume was a sort of last minute "oh no...we didn't know we needed a contemporary piece and she is doing something from Carmen and doesn't have anything to wear...", so we put it together with things from my stash and my partner's stash. Luckily, the girl and her mom were in love with what we came up with...apparently the skirt was exactly what the girl was thinking of, and the general design reminds the mom of her wedding dress (except for the fishnet/red/black/fringe thing... hers was white with mesh instead of fishnet-lol).
There's a sparkly re/black thing on the hip that doesn't show in this photo.
I know it is kind of odd, with the black at the top and the nude part with no lacing or anything, but we had a few options for them, and this is what we all liked best on her. It actually looked a bit more modern and 'fresher and more youthful' rather than full on Carmen hooker-ish. Her mom was more comfortable with it this way, and the girl was in love with it and loves dancing in it.

Wow - those are both fantastic! Great job!
I love the tutu! It looks very regal.
I'm pretty excited for my oldest to start dance lessons this spring. Mostly so I can sew dance outfits. LOL
