Today is my Expat Anniversary

2 years ago DH and I moved to Brisbane. I can't believe it's been two years ago. If anyone is lucky enough to get an Expat assignment to Oz I would definitely encourage it. I may b!tch about prices and the distance from my family, but all in all it's a beautiful place to live and raise a family. I feel very lucky to be able to call Australia my home.

Do you know your anniversary date? Do you do anything special to celebrate it?

Re: Today is my Expat Anniversary

  • Congrats! Mine is sometime in August I think. I'd have to check my passport to know the exact date.
  • I think mine is August 16 or around there...coming up on 4 years this summer if we don't end up moving!  Hard to believe.  Time passes so fast, doesn't it?

    Congrats on two years!

  • Congratulations!!! Celebrate!  Our expat anniversary is 15th January, we just hit five years in England.
  • We'll be at 2 years towards the end of next month.

Gblake, you and I have a lot in common time wise. Our sons were born a week apart and it looks like our second baby's will also be really close in age. I think I'm just a week ahead of you. Congrats!

  • Congrats :-) And I didn't know you were pregnant either, gblake! So congrats on that, too!

I guess my anniversary this time around would be July 25th. It'll be 7 years this summer, not counting the 2 years I spent on exchanges here before that.

Traveling turtle, that's wild. We do have a lot in common. Congrats to you too!

  • Happy Anniversary! Mine is August 17th and H's is April 5th.  We don't do anything special.  Ironically enough I took a flight back to the states on this past August on the exact day of my 1 year anniversary.

  • Now that you mention it... My Norway anniversary is Feb 1. I have to know it, because it goes on my US tax forms every day.

"When was your current tax home established?" Feb 1, 2007.

My general ex-pat anniversary (when I moved to China) is early October 2005, but I don't know the exact date. The 5th maybe?

  • Happy Anniversary!  Our 1st anniversary is coming up at the end of this month. I haven't thought about celebrating it, but I think that's a great idea.
  • congrats!!! mine is december 4th - that's the date I moved to london, I just count it form there (rather than when I came to Oz) as I've been living abroad every since, will be 11 years this year - OMG

  • Happy Anniversary!! And congratulations on your pregnancy!

Mine is kind of an ironic date--July 4th. "I love my country!  Let's celebrate by leaving!"  This summer will be 3 years.
