with kids - travel destination wish list
what places would you most want to go if you had little kids? I know I have posted something similar before about where you want to go but this time I am specifically asking about going with younger kids, preschool to younger elementary age. I was thinking about it reading the Belize post, I want to go there but it is not the type of trip I would do until my kids were old enough to scuba dive.
We have done Orlando and Aruba with the kids, are going to England in 3 months and hoping to do Hong Kong next year. Oh, and we have done Boston with the kids and loved hanging out but I don't think of Boston and NYC as vacation b/c they are so close...I should change my mind-set.
I am not sure where else is on my realistic near future wish list. Paris, Italy Russia and mainland China although I don't think we would do China or Russia until the kids were a little older, like older elementary school since those seem like harder trips (and I would love to do Shanghai after Disney is completed there.) And I want to do DC but that will just be a long weekend.

We have done Disneyworld, Nevis, San Diego, Vail and Baltimore/DC with our three year old.
This year we have a return trip to Vail, Paris planned in May and possibly a Hong Kong/China trip in the fall. The only stop in China would be Xian to see the Terra Cotta Warriors.

I have heard the Disney cruises are amazing as well, great balance bw adult and kid friendly. They go all over Europe, and I think Alaska would be really fun too (although prob a little bit older).
Vail would be nice, ski school starts at 3, and they have babysitting services.

You could make a week long out of DC, if you wanted. National Childrens Museum, and the zoo, in addition to all of the other museums (I know DD would LOVE the air & space museum)
The typical beach locations - Cape Cod, Outer Banks, Tybee Island/Savannah
I don't know about internationally, DD is 20 mos, so she is sort of in between being a baby, and sitting still for a long period of time, so we aren't quite there yet
my friends moved to scotland when their four kids were aged 3-10 and went all over europe for their summer vacations. i think their favorites were italy (their youngest was 4 when they went), greece, and france. they would rent houses and do daytrips because that was the most affordable and easiest thing for them.
DC has lots of stuff for kids
if we didn't have to do a ton of visiting with friends and family, i'd consider NYC and boston vacation destinations. for us, they are always only quasi-vacations because of visiting people.
i'd wait a little longer for SF but we went when i was 9 and i thought it was awesome.
So far we've gone to England, San Diego and San Francisco. Those are all places we'll continue visiting on a semi-regular basis(and we all live near Disneyland so can visit that easily when the kids are old enough to want to), but my dream list of places to take the kids when they're little is probably something like this:
France, Ireland, Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Germany for sure and maybe other parts of Europe if we get the chance. I'd love to get to Russia with them!
Japan, while some friends still live there, as well as China.
South America, starting with Argentina and working out from there.
Hawaii, NYC, Grand Canyon, Pacific Northwest, the Northeast in Autumn, DC.
I'm sure there's more but that's all I can thin of right now.
DS is 6 and we haven't taken him internationally yet. But we've taken him to S. CA a few times (Disneyland, legoland, beach) and will take him to Atlanta this summer. We will take him to NYC probably next year (we're from CO so it's not that close). We do ski trips all.the.time - so those aren't travel or vacations for him. We may try to get in a trip to someplace like Costa Rica with him this fall - but that's TBD.
On our list to go with him once he's closer to ages 10-14 will be Africa and Europe (right now he wants to go to paris "but only for 1 night mommy"

It is not that I would not bring my kids somewhere as long as it is safe but funds are limited so I will stick to vacations that are easier with kids instead of destinations that will be more difficult. For example, we originally wanted to do a Hong Kong/mainland China trip but we want to go sooner so we are just doing Hong Kong. We were also going to add Paris to our central England/London trip but are keeping Paris to a separate trip. Too many destinations on one trip would be hard for the kids. So Paris will come before Italy just because Italy will be more switching hotels.

I think this depends on the kids. It wouldn't bother mine, so that makes traveling a lot easier.
I actually have a list based on their ages. My boys are 3 years apart.
When they're young, like 3-5 and 6-8:
Chicago or NYC to see the dinosaurs at the Field Museum or Museum of Natural History.
Disney World or Disney cruise
Sesame Place
Smoky Mtn National Park.
When Jack is 6-10 and Ben is 9-13:
