What has IN been reading so far in 2012? Any books on your 'to read this year' list?
Re: What is IN reading?
I'm reading Thinking, Fast and Slow which is on a lot of 'best' lists for 2011. I'm mostly enjoying it, although I already 'know' a lot of it from psych classes/the use of commonly referenced psych studies.
Could use a good fiction read though--something that isn't too heavy but isn't all glitterfarts either.
I was just going to ask about this today.
I'm currently reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett which I'm enjoying. The book is very long, but for some reason I find myself interested in it all. I read one of his other books last year and liked it.
I haven't been in much of a mood to read and have started several books only to stop reading them all together about 70% through. I only read two books to the end so far this year. Both YA books. One I enjoyed (Looking for Alaska) and one I just wanted to know what happened (Variant).
I am currently reading The Corrections. There are parts where I am loving it and then there are parts where I feel it is SO over analyzed and drawn out...
Going to need some new reads when I finish though, glad you posted this!

Someone here suggested The Paris Wife to me a while ago and I'm reading that now. 2/3 way through and I'm enjoying it, though it is taking me a while. A bonus for me is that I happened to mention it at my last book club and the next host picked it for her book choice!!
The last book for our book club was "I was a boy in Belsen" by Tomi Reichental - his life story. I couldn't get the book as it was out of print when I went ot get it but the girls who did read it said it was very good and not just depressing. He has a very positive way of looking at life. I hope to read it when I get the Paris Wife finished.
Right now I'm reading The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas which was a gift from my boyfriend. He's reading the original Portuguese, and I'm reading the English translation.
I was trying to make a decent effort for the Nest Book Club's seasonal challenge, so in January I read:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
A near-future book about computer gaming that I've heard accurately described as "80s nostalgia porn." It's chock full of 80s pop culture and geek references. Lots of fun if you're into either!
Chasm City by Alistair Reynolds
Garden-variety sci-fi that was given to me by the "mammal man" (the aquatic mammals expert) on my Antarctica trip. It was pretty good, though.
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
An interesting premise wasted on a boring dysfunctional family plot.
Murder of a Medici Princess by Caroline Murphy
A historical analysis of the life of Isabella Medici and her (presumed) murder. An astonishingly dry book considering its title and the fact that it's about affairs and society intrigues and murder!
I had to check my last haul on amazon. Read recently:
I keep these on the side and reading a few pages here and there while in the middle of something else:
Happyslapped by a Jellyfish: The words of Karl Pilkington by Karl Pilkington
Now reading:
Next on my list:
Sister by Rosamund Lupton and 11.22.63 by Stephen King.
I am sort of reading Game of Thrones, but I'm only on the first book, and I haven't actually picked it up since this summer when we had a lot of long US flights (that didn't provide entertainment)!
I tend to read lighter stuff that doesn't take a lot of thinking (I do enough of that at work), so I'm currently reading Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me and Other Concerns by Mindy Kaling. It's a really quick easy read, and it's highly entertaining, especially if you're familiar with Kaling's work (she writes and stars in the US version of the Office).
My other recent read is Bossypants by Tina Fey, which I can't recommend enough. It was a super quick read, and was hilarious from the first page to the last. I also love Tina Fey, so that could explain it :-P
Dave & Jennifer 10.18.08
My Doha Adventures
Right now I'm reading "Chasing Rainbows", it's fairly light chick lit, which is fine for now.
I want to read "The Paris Wife" next.
2012 Reading Challenge
Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
I've only read two books so far this year, which is pretty shocking since I read over 100 last year. They were Will Grayson, Will Grayson and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
I'm about to start The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto, and after that I want to read The Descendants.
Right now I am reading Diane Mott Davidson''s Crunch Time. In January I tore through A Royal Pain, An Unthymely Death and Other Garden Mysteries, and A Girl's Best Friend, before I got stuck and slogged through The Damascened Blade.
When I finish Crunch Time, it's back to fun, fluffy stuff to get back in a reading groove. Maybe some of the freebies I downloaded for my Kindle.
I kept seeing this and thought about reading it even though it's a bit different than what I'm usually into.
I've hooked up with a group of self-published authors recently so I've been primarily reading indie and self-published books. Some are really good and some are just ok. I won't tell you about the just ok ones.
I did recently read the best-sellers The Hunger Games (I know I'm a little behind on this one, but I really liked it.) and A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard (sad but a good read).
Also recently read and enjoyed these indie ebooks:
Rook: Allie's War by J.C. Andrijeski (Futuristic Sci-Fi/paranormal)
H10N1 by M.R. Cornelius (pandemic - sort of like Contagion)
The Truth About Us by Dalene Flannigan (Contemporary fiction - secrets and lies)
The Enemy We Know by Donna White Glaser (Mystery/stalker)
The Power of Stones by John A. Miller (Mystery/Crime/Paranormal)
So far this year I've read The Secret Garden, Oliver Twist, and The Eight Cousins as they were all free Kindle books. The Eight Cousins was terrible, but for some reason I can never just stop reading a book when it's bad and always make myself finish.
I've also just read the first two books in The Hunger Games series.
A lot of people mentioned The Paris Wife and I borrowed that from a coworker in December, it was really good. I also really liked The Night Circus.
I've just finished reading "It's not my Mountain any more" on my Kindle and thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm not sure if it's because I know some of the people and I know a bit about the life in Appalachia.
I've been big on chick lit recently as I can't spend too much time on my books.
