Which camera for Las Vegas?

dslr or Canon powershot (point & shoot)? I can't decide between quality or convenience.[Poll]

Re: Which camera for Las Vegas?

  • It really depends what you are going for--higher quality photos or just regular photos to remember the trip.  I prefer my DSLR because there are so many neat things to capture here and the quality of photos is so much better with my good camera.  If I didn't care about the quality I'd probably just say screw the camera altogether and take photos with my phone.

  • we bring both.  I keep my P&S in my handbag at all times.  We bring the DSLR but it gets to be a pain while hoofing it around the strip, so we manage the times we take it out.  Plus, after X number of cocktails I don't trust myself with it. (I have been known to drop and break multiple cameras)!

  • I'd take both. I took a ton of pics with my DSLR the first half of my trip in Vegas, and then didn't bother carrying it after that unless I was going somewhere specifically to take photos, like the Bellagio garden display.

On our recent cruise, I used the DSLR on the ship and took my nice P&S off the ship in ports. I loved this combination. Bonus, my P&S (Canon S95) takes RAW photos, so I was able to edit them right along with my other photos in Lightroom.

    My gear: Canon T2i + battery grip + 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens = heavy!
