Did you do "better" on taxes as a married couple or as a single?
I got screwed on taxes as a married ( I can think of two good reasons why). I'm happy to file single again this year!
Re: tax related poll
Unknown as of yet - 2010 and 2011 aren't "normal" years for me to judge. 2010 I had to pay taxes on the alimony, and 2011 saw the sale of the house.
I assume I'll do a little better as a single for my 2012 taxes.
Better this year!! WAHOO!! My first year filing single (2010) my company had somehow messed up my withholdings, so I ended up having to pay quite a bit. This year, I'm actually getting a little refund!
Now on the flip side, our combined income plus the mineral rights XH draws was, oh, about 3 times what I make now. I miss the money, but I'm so much happier now.
Me too! Mind you, we only filed 2 tax returns together, but we owed both times.
As a single person I always get a refund
I had a great return while married, but I think that's mostly becaseu XH was in school and could write off tuition or interest on SL's or something like that? I got screwed last year (the first year of being divorced) but should get a small return this year...
Well...I ran basic numbers on turbo tax and it says I am getting 700 back from the feds and owe 200 to the state. That is without accounting for SL interest and some other things.
So I hope it is right...I will say that is pretty close to a wash (in my book) and I'll take it.
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
