Our 5th anniversary is in October (I know, a long way off, but I like to plan). We're already taking two trips this summer--to Yosemite and Maine--so we want to do something later in the year, either around our anniversary or maybe even after the holidays or something. We're more culture/sights/food-type people than beach-type people when we're on vacation.
What would be a good trip (probably 3 nights) that time of year? We've talked about going to Puerto Rico--is that a good time to visit? We also want to visit Seattle and Vancouver, but I'm guessing those aren't great weather-wise then. We've been doing CA a lot lately so that's out. NYC?
Just throwing this out there in case any of you have done trips around this time of year and have good recs . . .
Re: good fall/winter trip for me and DH?
Seattle's rainy season is fall/winter, so the weather may be iffy. If you haven't been there before, I'd try to go during the summer. It's soooo nice in the summer.
Savannah? Chicago? Toronto?
Just trying to think of a few places that won't take forever to fly to.
For one of our anniversaries DH and I did a DC 'vacation' and used the money we would have spent on plane tickets and rental cars to really splurge. You could pick a really posh hotel suite downtown, hit up all the great restaurants, and re-visit a favorite museum/spot or finally see one of those off-the-beaten-path places.
Or stay at a great B&B within a couple hours drive - there are several cutsy little spots in VA and MD.
Ooh, let me know if you like the Charleston idea. I can give you tons of recs and it's a great trip with or without the toddler.
Oh, just to clarify--this would definitely be sans toddler.

We just went to Puerto Rico over the holidays (got there Christmas day, stayed for 3 nights). It was a great trip, and I would highly recommend it, especially if you want to go somewhere warm. It was super-easy because flights are direct, no passports/customs required. That is actually considered the high season, so things book up, but you probably still have a lot of time.
A few things to do while you're there:
-Hike El Yunque rainforest (we did this through an organized tour)
-Visit the bio bays (there is one closer to San Juan, and another on the opposite end of the island). Apparently you have to book this through a company, which we didn't do, so missed out.
ETA: Drink many pina coladas. They were invented somewhere in PR (the exact place is disputed), but they are delicious everywhere.
-Visit one/both of the big forts; they have historical significance and stuff.
New England is beautiful that time of year!
I would pick somewhere that is not too long of a flight. New Orleans would be great for 3 nights - that is definitely a foodie city.
Montreal would also be really cool, although depending on when you go it could be cold.
We had a great trip to PR, too... and it would have been even better sans toddler.
The Vieques biobay is supposed to be the best/brightest - but, it's more of a trip than the other two.
