New England wineries?? (bachelorette party)

Hello! I'm hoping over from the bump to see if anyone here can help me out.

Anyone been to any good wineries in New England? Do they even exist? (good ones, I mean).  I'm planning a bachelorette party and someone suggested wineries, but we would probably need to stick to the North East (driving distance from Boston).  I've been to a couple of small farms/orchards that make wine, but they would not be good for a party.  I feel like you'd go to one or two and be out of things to do for the rest of the day/night.

Is there anything in the area that would make for a fun party? Or at least the start to a night out... I'll take any suggestions you have!

  • we had sakonnet wines at our wedding. our venue was down the street from the vineyard in little compton, RI. there's also greenvale in portsmouth, RI and i think one more in newport . . . you could do the wineries in the afternoon and head to newport for bar hopping that evening.

there are also wineries in stonington, CT, jonathan edwards winery has been a hit with some of the RI nesties. not sure about nightlife in that area though.

You get stamps in your "passport" for each of the wineries you visit.  Fill up your passport & you're entered into a drawing for prizes.  My parents actually won the grand prize a few years ago: a weekend stay @ a super nice hotel in Newport.  They're all in RI/MA & can easily be done in a weekend.  Our reception was @ Greenvale Vineyards in Portsmouth which is part of the trail; beautiful place!

Sweetberry Farms is nearby.  Lots of "pick your own" produce & a cute little cafe.  They also make ice cream made with local ingredients which is to die for!  They do site rentals as well.

Newport's bars & beaches are just a 10 minute drive from both of these places.

  • eastern long island has more in a more compact area with tons to do in the area. you can fly to islip (about 45 minutes away) or JFK or LGA (more than an hour away) but there are trains available.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • The winery in Stonington, CT would be very close (like 20 minutes) to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos so that might be fun for a bachelorette party--good restaurants and spas!

Also, close to Mystic, CT which is scenic and fun!

  • For my bachelorette party, my friends took me to a number of wineries in the Hudson Valley.  Brotherhood was one of the biggest/nicest.  That might make for a long drive for you though.  We went back to my friend's and went out in NYC afterwards.
  • Sakonnet is really good.

Greenvale is really pretty, but I'm not a huge fan of most of their wine. I took lots of pictures when we went for a tasting, but only bought one bottle of wine that's still on my shelf 6 months later.

Newport Vineyards in Middletown is by far my favorite local vineyard. They have so many wines that I love. Actually, most of the wine I drink is from there.

I also love Truro Vineyards in Truro, MA. It's a hike (right before P-Town), but when I went for part of a bachelorette weekend last year, we had a lot of fun and it's fun to spend time in P-Town too.
