QOTD: Vacation inspiration

In the spirit of the post below about where all the regulars went ... where a Question of the Day was proposed ... I will kick off with this QOTD ...

If you had up to 2 weeks to spend on vacation in August, where would you go?

We normally go on vacation in late spring (late May or early June), but due to my H's school schedule, we're waiting until August to go on vacation this year. I need ideas/inspiration so I can start planning a vacation. I need something fun to look forward to!

  • Alaska, British Isles, or Scandinavia.

  • If it weren't August, I would say a roadtrip out West to visit a bunch of national parks and such. But crowds in August would be awful, so that is more a September/Early October kind of trip. Someday we'll do it!

Most likely, we would head back to the UK. There is so much I want to explore there and we never seem to have the time. We really want to go down to Cornwall/Devon (stay at some haunted Inn DH talks about), then up to Yorkshire, the Lake District and all of that - and I'd like to see a bit of Scotland too.  Then, we'd probably go to Northern France were DH's family has a house. His sister spends a good deal of August there, so it would be fun to hang with her and her family - - but then DH has also proposed the idea of renting a car and driving to southern France. So if we had time, I'd like to do that too!

Oh if only we could find two weeks! We are casually planning on going to the UK in May or June, but probably for only a week, so that really limits things. If we could ever get up the guts to go back and not tell his family, we'd be able to explore and have some fun, but then we'd be disowned!

Edit - - I want to change my answer to Australia/New Zealand. Two weeks would be the perfect amount of time and it is their winter so the weather would - hopefully - be pretty nice!

  • Two weeks I'd definitely go abroad, probably Ireland/England. Or Alaska.

  • Whistler B.C. and Vancouver.  I really want to go ziplining in the forest there.

  • August can be hard with so many people trying to get in a vacation before school starts and the weather isn't very desirable in lots of areas.  I'd probably want to head north, maybe do a road trip around one of the great lakes and hit up the sleeping bear dunes in Michigan on the way back.

Or do the northern west coast, Washington/Oregon area and drive the coastline.

Spend a week in Seattle and a week in Vancouver.

Of course, going abroad is a great idea too with 2 weeks for a trip.  South of France?  Spain to eat lots of tapas and drink wine?

Apparently, I need to plan a vacation. :)

  • We were initially thinking of going to Italy & France. But then I worried that it would be too busy there in August since that's high tourist season for them. I might want to postpone that until the next year when we could go in May.

I'd like to check off a couple more states since there are only nine states I haven't been to. There are a few Canadian provinces left to check off too. I've been thinking about trying to plan a vacation where I could check off a bunch of places on one trip - New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. That might be a little ambitious, though.

Alaska is on my list too. And a bunch of places in Europe. The only European countries I've been to are England and Norway, and there's still lots more to explore in those countries.

Then there's South America. And Australia. And Asia.

I have so many places on my "must see" list, I feel like I'll never get to all of them.

  • This is easy only because we're already planning it.  We're going to the Mt St Helen's area on motorcycles.  I figure that it's going to take me 4.5-5 days to ride out there and the same back.  So that leaves 4-5 days to explore the area once we get there.

If we didn't have this planned already, we'd head to a Southwest/CA trip.  Driving, we'd spend time in New Mexico, Scottsdale/Phoenix, Vegas, LA, San Francisco and then home.

  • This is kind of funny to me that this question came up.  I just started a conversation with a friend about taking a vacation during that time in Costa Rica.

This is exactly what I was going to say.  I have always wanted to go there, and I think it would be nice to go in August.

  • Two weeks in August I would do Alaska or if the $ was there, Australia or Africa.
