non-clicky poll: age

does your age make you depressed?

this came up at work.. my boss is turning 59 and looks seriously 35 at the most, besides the hair color.. but she looks so good.. anyway, she said she is depressed because of her age.. then my other coworker who is 40ish said it bugs her too.. i've noticed a couple people worried about their age.. i just wanted to see how everyone else felt.

Re: non-clicky poll: age

  • the only thing that scares me about getting older is the fact that i don't have any babies yet. but i LOVE getting older. with age comes wisdom and respect from peers.. i love that!

  • I keep teasing about turning 30 this year, but it doesn't depress me.

I feel like I'm at a really good place in my life.

  • i feel so different than my actual age that it doesn't really bother me, because i don't think it's "accurate" anyways.

I ask myself the same question. Every time I get a little bummed I think about all the good things I still have to look forward too, plus I just think about people older than me :)

  • My age doesn't really make me sad, but my original "goal" age to have my first baby is next year.  And THAT freaks me out a little, I don't think I'll try to keep that goal :)

  • Same as most of you.  My age doesn't freak me out or make me depressed, but I do sometimes freak out when I think of what I wanted/planned/should have accomplished by a certain age.  Mostly, just not having babies yet and feeling like I'm running out of time to have kids.

  • Not at all... I LOVE my age! I keep telling H and my friends that this is the perfect age to be... we're young enough to have the energy (well, on a good day, ha!) to do the things we want to do, we're old enough to be done (for the most part) with our college age dumb antics, we have money to do the things we want to do, but we're not tied down with kids so we feel like we have the freedom to do what we want to do. I plan to enjoy every season of life as it hits, but I am LOVING this one!! Not in a hurry for anything to change.

  • I try to just remind myself that getting older sure beats the alternative.  I'll be 31 in May - whatever.  I'm having the time of my life now with DH and I figure somehow, everything will work out the way it should, and one day we'll have a family of some form.

I'm not hung up on actually needing to *have* kids - and even if we have some biologically, we'll still probably try to adopt.  And if we never have kids, I'm sure we'll still have a plenty fulfilling life.

The worst day above ground is still better than being below ground, IMO.

  • I'm 25 so it doesn't really phase me yet.

  • I'm 32 and for the most part, age ain't nothin' but a number. I'm glad to be over the crap from my 20s, but I do get sad at times that I'm this far along and have no "career" but just "jobs". The only reason it freaks me out is I'm so aware of the biological ticking and while we're working at it, I'm going to be an "old" mom just like mine was compared to my friends' moms...that and most of our friends have had their kids already so ours will be so much younger.

    heh, this :)

my baby age is also 30, so not too worried there yet, either

  • Nah. Most of my/our friends are older than us -- like, our regular gaming group mostly graduated high school the year I was born -- which makes me feel like "age" just isn't really a "thing", you know?

And, really, ever since we bought the house and have a mortgage and all of that, I feel like we're planning for the long-term anyway, so where we are chronologically isn't so much a stopping-point as it is a way-marker, y'know?

  • I joke about it but it doesn't really bother me. I would have thought I would be back in school by now but am not sure about anything enough yet.

  • I'm 30, turning 31 in June and I really don't care. My H and all my friends are younger than me and it makes me feel young. There are things I thought I would have accomplished by now but I'm not stressing about it. Things will happen when they happen. I'm happy with my life. And my age! Every time I tell someone how old I am, they can't believe it. Twice this weekend people said they thought I was 25. Cool! Lol!
  • Nope my age does not make me depressed. I'm 28 yet I can be 80 because DH and I don't go anywhere. We like to stay home and watch tv. Smile

  • Generally speaking, my age doesn't bother me.  I'm 33.  I do get a little bummed when I think about the fact that we're not going to have a large family (because my body is working against me, and adoption is expensive, frankly).

I was hanging out with two friends on Saturday.  I don't feel old compared to them (I think they're both 24/25), but one of them made a comment about how she doesn't work with anyone her own age, and that all of them are kind of old, "Like, in their late 20s or 30s."  (In her defense, she may not honestly know how old I am.)  That made me feel old.

  • The only thing about my age that makes me twitch is the fact that we only started having children now. If it was up to me, our whole timeline of marriage babies would have been 4 years ago, not now.

And it's one of the only ways D realized we were getting old and having kids whenever is not really an option, when I told him if we had our first kid at 40 years old, we would be 60 by the time they were 20 and still in college. He kind of turned pale. :P
