What, no Super Bowl discussion?
No one wants to chat about the game? The ads? Your favorite snacky food? MIA flipping the bird? Madonna's impressive moves atop those stilettos? Does it all get a bah-humbug-case-of-Mondays?
Re: What, no Super Bowl discussion?
I was just really blah this year. I really can't stand either team (apologies to Giants or Pats fans) and only watched cause we were invited to a party.
The commercials were ok - and there were some that I liked - but no "OMG that.is.AWESOME!!" types. Of course my personal fav. commercial was David Beckham selling something for some company. The car commercials really seemed to own the commercials this year.
And I'm most bummed that I missed the MIA finger-malfunction. And was it just me or did it look like Madonna was just going through the motions for the first half? Maybe she actually did have a case of the nerves and she was just tense?
I am sick of car commercials. The number of Chevy commercials throughout the game made me nauseous, and I wasn't a fan of the Clint Eastwood halftime commercial. Maybe it's because 3/4 of my FB friends are in MI, but I'm tired of the whole Detroit resurgence thing. I MUCH preferred the Eminem Chrysler commercial last year.... it was just more real.
I also hate it when they pan over to a bunch of guys in Afghanistan watching the game. Seeing military guys huddled around a tiny TV in the desert doesn't make me feel any better about watching the game in the comfort of my living room. Not that I feel guilty... it's just that that sort of "military support" seems so fakey.
Let's see I loved the Too fat dog commercial and the m&ms one (I'm still giggling in my head about it)!
The half time show was good. But it did look like Madonna was very stiff the first half, and the wheelbarrow push up move was just awkward! And I totally missed MIA flipping the bird. Not sure how, but I did!
We had an awesome food spread at our friend's party. The crack dip I made was a big hit as always! The boys grilled chicken wings that were simply amazing!
Other than that, the game was like watching a chess match until the last 5 minutes or so. But we still had a great time! The best part was all the girls debating on Tom Brady's hotness factor while the boys tried to shush us!
I enjoyed the m&ms one too. I thought Madonna was pretty good overall, but didn't enjoy MIA or LMFAO (I only like the latter's music when at zumba). I'll confess, I really didn't watch much of the whole thing. We had it on all night, but I was doing other things around the house, plus it's just not the same when your team's not in it. I am glad the Giants won though.

Madonna with pom-poms at age 54?
No.
(but I liked the rest of her show because I love Madonna)
Watching the Super Bowl felt like a chore this year. While there were a few moments of excitement, they mostly fell in the first and fourth quarter. I hadn't previewed the ads because I wanted them to be new, but the day after I can't remember any without a prompt. Hank Steuver's roundup in the Post summarized a lot of what I thought.
I have to admit I enjoyed the halftime show, though. Madonna seemed determined to put on an entertaining show. I was surprised MIA would agree to something as mainstream as halftime and the bird-flipping to me felt very choreographed to maintain her edgy image. Bah humbug on that, I say.
It was a really quick game even with the halftime show. Overall, it was just an OK game. I'm not a fan of either team but am glad the G Men beat the Pats (sorry to the Pats fans here). I really think Tom is cursed by being married to Gisele. He has 0 SB rings with her, while with Bridget he won 3 SB and was MVP of 2 of them. Just sayin'.
The halftime show was not my favorite. Loved the beginning with Vogue and the end with Like a Prayer. Hated the whole middle. I did catch the MIA flip-off though!
For the most part the commercials were really mediocre.
Ditto the pps . . . I was rooting for the Giants but wasn't really watching the game. I'd already seen the Ferris Bueller commercial (the extended version, which was funnier) and the only other one I really liked was the Chevy one.
I thought Madonna was great, although she was definitely lip-synching at the beginning, if not for the whole thing.
DH and I were watching alone, so there wasn't a lot of crazy food ((too much) wine and cheese, some bbq meatballs my brother made, ice cream).
Glad the Giants won, though. Woo.

This. All I can say sports-related is that it's less than two weeks until spring training starts.
As for the commercials, I LOVED the MetLife Commercial with all the old school cartoon characters. When I was a kid, I loved Laff-O-Lympics or anytime there was a crossover with cartoons. That commercial was awesome.
