When planning a mini Vaca...

Do you think of the cost/rating of the hotel/resort/inn? Or the location?

Ex: A great hotel, with great amenities (free breakfast, reward points, free pet), on the beach but is 1.3 miles further than the location you want.

A great resort, no amenities, pay extra for pets, on the beach in a perfect location.

Both are suites, and on the beach. We've stayed at the resort last year, and it was a great location. But, I really would not mind trying the LQ. (and get the points) So would you go with the resort that will be more expensive in the long run, or the hotel that is further than a desired location?

Re: When planning a mini Vaca...

  • What's in the desired location? 1.3 miles doesn't seem like a big deal.

Both on Daytona Beach. The "desired" location is basically where the driving on the beach ends and the beach starts. So in front of the resort is no driving. (Last year we rented Scooters and drove all the way down the beach) On the street side of the "resort" there are tons of shops and resturants.

The hotel, is a not as lively, and not as many places to walk to to shop, eat, or people watch. But it's a bit nicer and I love the rewards.

  • In this case, I think I'd pick the desired location. Sounds fun.

  • It depends on what I planned to do more- relax and enjoy lounging on the beach and in my room or walking around, shopping, eating, etc.  For a vacation in Daytona, I'd personally choose location and stuff to do over a nicer room, but somewhere else I might choose a nicer hotel if I just wanted a relaxing vacation.
  • Personally, we always stay at Marriott properties just for the reward points, even if it isn't *exactly* where we want to be.  Because we travel so much, we get a ton of points, and lots of free trips, so it's worth a little bit of a trade off for us.

We try and stay at either LQ or Sheraton because of the rewards and pet policies.

My H told me that if we could get a ocean view suite on the ground floor, he would not mind being a bit further than last year. I called the hotel and they said they had one....so...I will get my excercise in for this vaca! LOL
