Chamois Questions

How difficult is it to sew with chamois?

Is there any place (online preferrably) where I can buy it by the yard?

Re: Chamois Questions

  • I have to admit, I'm a little confused about this one. Chamois as in the stuff you use to dry cars with? What would you use it for?

  • Good question, as it is the fabric that is used to dry cars.  My colleagues and I go to Starbucks daily (occupational hazard when it's attached to the office building), and in the summer, the cold drinks "sweat" all over the place, leaving little puddles on our desks.  So I'd like to make some iced drink koozies to fit the cold drink cups that will absorb the condensation, hence chamois.  I could probably make these with the individual squares that are sold as car rags for now.

  • I don't think it would be hard to sew chamois, but I would think that neoprene would be a better alternative.  You can buy neoprene at a lot of fabric stores by the yard too!
