My poor bunny :(

Something is wrong with his eye. I thought it was closed because he was napping but then I saw his other eye was open. He hasn't moved around much, hasn't drank any water or ate anything all day... I'm afraid something else is wrong with him. He has a white gooey discharge coming out of both eyes but mostly from the one he wont open. I did get him to open his eye enough to see that it turned a whitish color (so kind of cloudy). I don't know what to do, I plan on calling the vet tomorrow and see if she can fit him in, but I will be a mess until then.

If any of you ladies own a rabbit or have previously and know what I can do for the time being I would really appreciate it. Also he has been losing weight, I thought it was because he was losing his winter coat but when I picked him up he was SUPER light and bony.

Re: My poor bunny :(

  • Sorry I'm not very bunny smart but those symptoms do sound very worrisome. Are you able to check his mouth/teeth? Is it possible that his teeth are overgrown or maybe some type of infection. How is his breathing? Does it seem like he's breathing okay? If he's not eating right he may not have the energy to clean his eyes properly which could lead to it getting infected like that. How old is he also?

  • His teeth seem fine and I didn't hear anything wrong with the breathing. He is just over a year old. I read something about how something wrong with the eyes can lead to snuffles (cold) but he doesn't have any symptoms pointing to that.
