F/U to lurker needs advice

well I survived the weekend. On the up side, once we mentioned the scholarship no one asked if I was going to work. On the down side, when we told them, MIL turned to me and actually said "So how did you get this scholarship anyway?" H and I were all Indifferent  um, how does she think I got it??!!

I had to explain that it was due to my high GPA and placement in the Honor Society, etc.  Then she said "well, when FIL and I went back to school we didn't get scholarships" umm, I'm supposed to feel bad I did well??

Oh, and they did ask the amount point blank. Against our better judgement, we answered. I'm very proud, because it is alot. I worked very hard for it. It is for 5 figures people!!!  Thats a lot of money!!!  And MIL and FIL say "oh, thats good" like i'm commenting on the weather. Then they changed the subject.

There is just no winning!  haha

  • Yay for you! I read your PP. You must be and should be thrilled. With some people, you just can't win. For what it's worth, I once heard someone say, "Just because a person doesn't show love doesn't mean they can't feel it." It's always helped me to take the high road - like you did!
  • wow, thats a great quote. Thank you!

So she pointed out that they weren't smart enough to get scholarships?  Love it when someone is trying to be rude but ends up insulting themselves.

  • Stop explaining things to this woman. You are only fueling the fire.
  • That's great!

although you need to be careful sharing amounts like that.  When people are told the good, they expect to also be told the bad.  If you keep money off the table for everything it ends up being a lot better.
