Darkened skin "down there"...

Hey ladies,

I apologize if this is TMI, but I've noticed when I shave my "area" that the skin is kind of scared underneath the hair.  I don't shave it all off - but I like to keep it relatively short and the edges clean.  I used to think it's just because I have black hair but it's definitely just skin discoloration.  My husband doesn't seem to care about the dark skin/spots, but I do and want to restore to skin to my natural color if possible. Have any of you experienced this problem? Any tips?

I use a Venus razor and plenty of gel if that matters. Thank you!

So happy to be married to my best friend.

Re: Darkened skin "down there"...

  • My skin down there has changed coloration slightly over the years, but I'm not exactly sure what you're describing.  Some changes like this are natural.  Next time you're at the gynecologist, ask them about it.  I'm sure they can give you some good advice.  However, I'm sure your hubby thinks you're beautiful down there, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Unless something unnatural happened (not shaving), it is the natural color. Shaving doesn't affect skin pigment.

  • have you taken a pregnancy test recently ... when i had my children my *** got very dark, a lina nigra is when the pregnancy hormones give you a line on the bottom of your belly (vulva to navel) and i just assumed that when my vulva got dark it was essentially the same thing
  • Thank you for your responses - it's such an embarrasing question for me to ask. It was supposed to read "scarred" not "scared".  And I'm sorry I wasn't more specific - it's just the exposed skin under the hair around my bikini line after I've shaved it that has gotten darker.  I read a bit more about it and looks like it's probably due to razor bumps/skin irratation from shaving some suggestions have been to simply use toning creams and/or exfoliate the area regularly and that should help lighten the area plus some other tips to help reduce the chances of skin irritation in the first place.  Thank you all again for your input!

  • Hormonal changes can darken your skin as can trauma. Shaving down ther may not be helping your problem either. If you continue to shave use a decent moisturizer afterwards.
