Aerolineas Argentinas

Has anyone flown them before?  I was reading on their website that basically all toiletries (shampoo, gel, deodorant, toothpaste, etc) are prohibited from carry-on luggage.  Does anybody know how strict they are on this?  Thanks!

Re: Aerolineas Argentinas

  • I don't know about the carry-on liquids, but I wanted to give you a heads-up to double-check your flight times over and over, right up to the day of your flight. And give yourself plenty of time for delays. Almost everyone who flew Aerolineas Argentinas to Ushuaia for our Antarctica trip had their flight times change with no notice.

About a dozen people got bumped off their original flights, and a many others had their luggage bumped to a later flight than the one they were on. (Needless to say, it led to some interesting travels for the people whose bumped luggage didn't get there before our ship left Ushuaia!)

  • I also can't comment on the carry on rule, but I'll second their shady reputation. We flew LAN from Buenos Aires to Mendoza (and back) in 2008 and every single Aereolineas flight was delayed of cancelled. We paid like $150 more (for the two of us, round trip) and ours was ontime. We did carryon only and had no issues with liquids (just followed the 311 rules)
  • We've just gotten back from 6 weeks in Sth America and multiple intenral flights (all with LAN though) and there were NO checks on any sort of liquids for national or intanational flights, in most cases we were able to bring water through (only one location did not let us and I can't remember where). I carry alot of gels and liquids for medical reasons and there were no questions asked and after our first stop we didn't even take them out of our backpacks. They flew out of the same terminals as the other airlines so I don't know how they could double check before boarding.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
  • I will always pay more to fly any other airline and avoid Aerolineas. One friend's flight to Buenos Aires from Santiago was diverted to Cordoba where they were told they would be provided with a bus - Cordoba and BsAs are not close. Another friend was left in Australia for almost an extra week when here originally flight back to Santiago was canceled, and the airline said "oh, you can get on a flight in a week" - she had to fight to only make it 5 days and beg her boss to forgive her. I've never heard of an Aerolineas flight being on time. It's just not worth the lower cost to me.
