I would suggest you research all of the options for flying in between the two cities. This will give you a feel for the average cost. I like to visit the airport arrivals page - by looking at the carriers arriving from Hong Kong, you can identify airlines you wouldn't have thought of. Looks like Cathay is often an AA and JAL codeshare. Maybe look into the ANA/Air Canada/United/Continental flight?
