Unhealthy Home Buying Behavior - Stalking a Home

Hi,

We just started out search last week and I can't get this one home off my mind. Both mornings this week I've run to my computer in the morning to check the homes status. Obviously, this is unhealthy.

Are there other unhealthy home buying behaviors I'll experience?

(I thought something light would be nice this morning )

We're under contract and my husband wanted to go to our new neighborhood, park, and walk around the neighborhood. Please note that we already know we like the neighborhood and have driven around it many times. Just driving there to go for a walk seems awkward to me. If we lived closer, I'm sure we'd be driving by constantly.

I think driving by the house at different times of day is a good thing-gives you a feel for the neighborhood. And if you are seriously considering a house, I also think it is a good idea to explore the surrounding area. Look for what grocery stores, restaurants, etc. are nearly. It will be your new home, after all.

But I would also say if you can't get a home out of your mind like that, it may be time to make the offer.

We are under contract and I drive by "new" house once a day! I also check the listings daily to see if we missed out on a better house!

I was constantly pulling up the listing and looking at the pictures over and over! Imagining US living there - which was how I knew it was the right house for us. None of the other houses we looked at made me want to do that.

We are under contract and we have driven past the house and thru the neighborhood multiple times. However my unhealthy part of it is I still am in mourning for the original house we lost and still stalk that one online so I can find out what the final offer was on it.

Are you considering putting in an offer? If it goes under contract you might kick yourself for it later and then compare everything else to it. I would go back for a second look.

The seller accepted the offer on our home and now we are waiting to hear from the bank (short sale) - we have driven by the home a few times

I have actually parked my car in a neighborhood at different times of the day. I was glad I did this, I realized that the home was in the flight path and every night around 5 you could hear planes pass over. It wasn't a commonly used flight path, but the little use it got was annoying enough for us to walk away without putting in an offer.

I also think it's good to drive by at different times to see what it looks like, if the neighborhood gives you a good feel, etc.

my first home was just up the street from where I was living. I didnt HAVE to drive by it to go places, but I made sure I did daily!!!

LOL!!! I was guilty of "Stalking a Home" before during and after we closed on our first home. During escrow I would pass by the neighborhood EVERYDAY with the windows rolled down and look at our future home, at the time. I would go online to check and see if the seller's agent changed the listing from 'For Sale' to 'Pending Sale' to 'Sold'. Also, after the seller agreed to have certain repairs done on the house I would go by to make sure they were being done - the contractors had no idea who I was so I would ask them what they were doing, how they were doing it then I would tell another contractor to make sure they were doing the right thing. I honestly turned into a real b****! Then after we got the keys my husband and I felt the weight lifted off of our shoulders!!! No one could take out piece of property from and we felt as if we were on top of the world!! To this day I still wake up in the middle of the night and walk around our home and look at the improvements we've made thus far! I personally don't think there is an 'Unhealthy Home Buying Behavior' UNLESS you're doing something to jeopardize the sell of the home or getting the loan funded. Good luck!!!

We have been stalking the neighborhood we are hoping to buy in a lot... we have a conditional offer on the sale of our home accepted with a new build developer (they don't break ground until next month) and every time we have an open house and are kicked out of our place we go down to the new neighborhood and hang out and walk through the models. I'm pretty sure the people at the sales office are sick of us, haha.
