Smash 2/6 possible spoilers
So, what did you think about it? I enjoyed it. It certainly wasn't Glee, so that was nice to get some music without rehashing the same show. I'll tune in next week. Who do you think will play Marilyn?

Re: Smash 2/6 possible spoilers
I really liked it. I gave up on Glee several months ago, so it is nice to have a more adult version. I am curious to see where the story goes.
I think that Katherine's character will be Marilyn, but I really like her so I am probably biased.

She'd get a "that's beautiful, but do you have any showtunes?"
I liked the show. Much better than Glee, which I could never get into. I'm not too sure how I feel about Kathryn McPhee's character, but I'm sure she'll probably get it, even though Megan Hilty's character is a much better choice. I'll definitely be tuning in next week.
Kat McPhee was on a pre-game superbowl show discussing smash in "football terms". She said that Tom Brady got a shot when Bledsoe got injured... so I'm assuming that she won't get the part orginally, but will stay on as the back-up for now... but we'll see......
I really liked it and I'm curious to see where it goes. I feel like we got to know McPhee's character more this episode with seeing her boyfriend so much, the dinner with her parents, the indecent proposal from the director. We saw Ivy a lot in the demos for Marilyn, but I don't feel like I know her character so well yet. I like them both, though.
Pretty much this. I don't get this show.
They're obviously setting up Ivy as the sexpot Marilyn and McPhee as the vulnerable Marilyn (hence Beautiful.)
But I agree - IRL, that probably wouldn't fly.
Good point. It's just so bland, I think.
I really liked it.
I kind of thought that her singing Beautiful was more for the effect in the trailer, commercials and promos than the actual show itself.
I was really happy to see Debra Messing.

I liked it.
I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the inner workings of Broadway or what it's like to audition for a part but I'm intrigued and I think it was well-cast and well-acted, and I loved the musical pieces. I wonder if the intention was to make the show, then make Marilyn into a real play?
I liked it. I'm not a Glee fan, and wasn't expecting much from Smash, but I really like it.
I think Kathrines character is going to get the part, or she's at least going to be an understudy.
Just a prediction, but I am wondering if Ivy's character isn't pregnant. I think she's sleeping with the director and the kid is his. Just saying...I could be way wrong here. For a seasoned Broadway singer, I would hate to think she'd be so nervous for an audition she'd throw up.
Ooooh I'd forgotten about the puking. Interesting point. It's possible, and would make for a juicy plotline.
I enjoyed it overall. I thought her singing "Beautiful" was lame and that they were all entranced by her, but I love this kind of show so I can get over it.
And I love seeing Debra Messing on tv again.

Wasn't the director gay? Do you mean Debra Messing's writing partner? I thought that character was gay because he kept checking out the young male assistant.
No I was talking the other director. The one that Debra Messing's writing partner doesn't like. The one that texted Kathrine McPhee to come over late at night.
