new job/new schedule

I'm still working at the same magazine, but have switched positions. They approached me a few months ago about taking a full time job. We weren't pg, but had just started trying at the time and I just knew I didn't want to go full time. My last full time position was super stressful and very long hours for half the month. And even w/o being pg I have a good groove going being able to work one day and catch up on Pinwheel the following day. So I declined the offer.

They came back to me 20 minutes later asking if I could do it if it were part time.

All of our magazines are now going to be available on tablets (ipads, nooks, kindle fire, etc.) So I'll be running production on the tablet issue. I'll only work during the two weeks that's going on, full time and will be off for two weeks.

I just worked my first full week last week and it was hard. Rushing to the printer before they close (where I used to get off at 3 and had time), getting stuck in traffic, getting home later to make dinner and then spending the rest of the night and the mornings before I go in catching up on Pinwheel..rushing to the post office before work. It was really crazy. But, production finished on Wednesday and now I'm off for two weeks.....So...it almost feels worth it. :)

The plan is still for me to quit when the baby comes and stay at home...but it would be nice if we could figure out a way for me to work at home or something. we'll see!

  • Wow!  I can't tell you how often I've been thinking lately that I'd love to work part-time.  A two week on/two week off rotation would certainly be doable (though potentially crazy for those two weeks you're on!).

  • That actually sounds like a great schedule. I am sure it is crazy though but you can do it, just keep telling yourself 2 weeks, 2 weeks.

  • I am so jealous! I would love to work 2 on/ 2 off. But alas I will be working at my fulltime job. We have awesome insurance that I would not get if I went part time.

  • Sounds like a great schedule. Hopefully it won't be too crazy when you're further along in your pregnancy! :-)
