Fresh Paint for house to sell in 12 months NOW or WAIT?
We are putting our house on the market in Jan of 2013.
We need to paint the enitre house, trim, and new carpet (I believe we will do wood floors in living and carpet in bedrooms) As well as a few other smaller things.
We basically need to put about 7-8K into the house to sell at a good price.
Should we paint this spring or wait? We do have 2 small children but we have never had issues with anything on the walls. I would really enjoy a freshly painted house because the paint used when built was cheap and dull.
What do you think?

If you're doing it yourself and are doing a number of rooms, I think it'd be a good idea to start soon, so you don't get overwhelmed doing it all at once. Maybe do hallways and high traffic areas last. "Fresh paint" to me means it's not 10+ years old... not that it had to be done yesterday.
I see this point. But let me explain.... My Dear MIL when I was 9 months PG with DD thought she would be helping me by patching my carpet while I was at my Dr's appt. She cut a 2 foot section out of my DD's closet and attempted to patch it up in my living room. That and 2 kids (normal wear and tear of cheap carpet in 5 yrs) I think it wouldn't show well.
I am thinking of just doing the living room with wood floors and leaving the closet.
Do you have hardwood floors under the carpet?
As a buyer, I appreciate new carpet ONLY if there are no hardwood floors. If you have hardwood floors I'm ripping up the carpet before I move in!
As far as paint goes, I'm going to paint it what I want when I move in anyway, so unless it's all marked up and looks like absolute cr*p, I wouldn't bother. But if you must, then start ASAP. It's very overwhelming to paint a bunch of rooms at once.
Maybe just replace the carpet in that one room (or better yet, go to wood floor).
