OD: Dexter and Emma relationship
Do you think Dexter and Emma would have been happy had they admitted
their love and devotion to each other much earlier in their lives? Or would they have been too young and immature to make it last and wound up not even being friends anymore?

You're right. I think it would have held Emma back, but I also think it might have kept Dexter from spiraling so out of control.
Out of all of the "almost" moments, I found myself most distressed by the letter that never got mailed from India. I don't know if it's because it was still early, and I hadn't quite realized how much it wasn't going to happen, or if that one moment really was different.

I think there were a few moments (though brief ones) where Dexter sort of realized how important she was in his life but he couldn't find the words to say it, so he just half-hinted, and Emma was too insecure and too down on herself to be able to accept them.
I agree. I do believe that I was hoping for a happy medium and didn't get it. I really feel like if they were together from the start his partying and her lack of self confidence would have ruined it quickly. I think them becoming friends and confidantes solidified them a lot more. But I think them waiting so long was too long. They waited so long that I think they became to static to change enough.
