Silly purchase - should I?

Apparently I'm just overwhelmed with the need to spend money on ridiculous things today! H's favorite Monopoly token is the top hat. I saw these awhile ago and they look like it to me, but I thought it would be a silly purchase. Now, however, they're on clearance so the price isn't as dumb. We do already have a champagne bucket, just a plain silver one, so I guess to be less wasteful, I'd be inclined to get the cheaper smaller one to use for an ice bucket, but the top hat would be more fun for NYE etc.

meh- are you trying to save money? i don't know if you've mentioned budget issues or not--but some ladies on the board are aggressively saving- if you're one of them- don't buy it.

if you're passively saving - don't buy it.

if you have some money for play time - sure!

It would be a present for H. I just know that he often finds the things I purchase kind of ridiculous...but then I catch him using them and enjoying them months down the road.

while Jenn has some sound advice, my gut reaction is to say get it! those are unusual and way cool! i think the smaller one for an ice bucket is a good choice as you already have a champagne bucket. You could use it for the Oscars, a viewing for the new Gatsby movie coming out... the list goes on! and its a decent price.

I'll think about it for awhile still. They have hooks that are perfect for what I want for the bathroom and haven't been able to find anywhere else in a cheaper version, but they are online only.

Jennlin - I'm only sort of passively saving in that for the most part, I'm pretty good about my money other than being too lazy to bring my lunch for the past few months, so I've noticed my bank account nicely getting fatter.

this is good- but it's not a reason to spend money-- but if you have room in the budget for "fun", then go for it. it definitely is fun, but it's nowhere near a necessity, and i'm sure (if your h is anything like my h)..sending him a link is almost as good as buying it for him...gets the point across, less stuff in the house, and free!

It's cute, but... really not necessary unless you drink a lot of chilled wine or champagne, and it seems like something that would sit on a shelf for a long time. Even with the price.
