Hey there!
So I am a certified teacher, new to the area, that can absolutely not crack into a teaching job! There was a part-time position that was supposed to open at the school that I am an aide at (trying to get my foot in the door), but that fell through. Does anyone know of any elementary school level teaching positions that might be open or opening in the future? I would be forever grateful to you for any leads you might have!
Thanks, Ladies!
Re: Teaching Jobs
I feel for you. I was just in your position. There really are not any jobs much of anywhere.
I just started a job last Monday that I applied for, but that was literally the only job I had found. I also couldn't find any sub openings, but I never looked into Seattle. you may want to check there if you want to sub.
What district are you looking in?
I'm in LWSD. It took me 4 years of subbing in this district and that includes 2 maternity leaves and one job share as a .2. I'm not sure if they have the teacher job fair in Tacoma still but it might worth looking into. It's usually in April. It's pretty overwhelming but it's good to see what is out there. If you've been paying attention to the news, you will see that there have been a lot of cuts to education so a lot of districts aren't hiring. Good luck!
I'm a high school English teacher. I remember naively telling DH once upon a time that "I'm a teacher; I can work anywhere!" And then we moved here.
I looked for work for about a year, and I tried to sub in two different districts (and very rarely got called for a job). I finally landed a maternity leave job. While doing that, I got the inside scoop from the district...that due to budget cuts, no high schools were allowed to hire. If a teacher was retiring (which one was from the school where I was working), the school was just supposed to absorb the students or use someone from another school within the district who wanted to move.
That's when I gave up on finding a teaching job in the state of Washington, and I started looking into online teaching. It's what I do now. The pay isn't great, but I do work from home. I would think that elementary might be even harder to get into than secondary, but it might be something to consider.

Beyond that, I stumbled across my job by googling "online teaching jobs."
