Maldives!

It was seriously a week in paradise!  Since this was one of my dream vacations, my expectations were pretty high, and it pretty much lived up to them.  I don't have a whole lot to say about what we did, since we pretty much didn't do anything at all (which was the entire point!) - our time was split fairly evenly between the pool, the beach, and our bungalow patio, with a little snorkeling thrown in there.

The Maldives are made up of about 1200 islands, the majority of them not inhabited.   Most of the resorts will take up the entirety of an individual island. We split our time between two locations of own resort chain.  The first was on Kuda Huraa, about a 30 minute boat ride from airport in Male, the capital city.  It was a pretty small island, only 0.5 mile long, but so nice.  We stayed at a beach bungalow there, with a private plunge pool. The second island, Landaa Giraavaru, was a 30 minute seaplane ride away and about three times larger and offered more amenities, like a tennis court.  Here we stayed in one of those over-water bungalows.

The accommodations were all amazing, and the service top notch.  Every where you went, they would give us a cold little towel to cool down.  On the beach, they would come by every hour with free smoothies, or ice tea, or fresh fruit, while replacing our waters and cold towels.  I could really get use to that kind of service!

They're really doing a lot of work on building up the coral reefs, and the snorkeling right off the beach was pretty good.  Lots of cool little colorful fish.  There are some small sharks there, but harmless.  They would come up to the  shore in the evening.

The weather was great.  We had one completely cloudy day, but the rest of the days were mostly sunny with a light breeze and some clouds - just enough to cool you down.  I think the temperature pretty much hovered around 30 C / 90s F.

Anyways, that's enough of me rambling on.  We had a great time, and it was just what we needed right now to relax and recharge.  We avoided the internet all week and it actually felt good to tune out!

So, here are some pics.  They totally don't do it justice, but give you a bit of a flavour.
