What kind of swing dance do you do? WCS, ECS, or something else? BF and I love to WCS! Do you go to competitions?
Re: *startingover2010*
I've been paged twice in one day?? It's dorky, but I feel special right now!
I mainly do ECS, but I've done a little WCS. I took one WCS class, and I just pick up dances now and then when I'm out. I've been ECSing for almost a year now. No competitions yet...my schedule just doesn't allow for enough practice time. Do y'all compete?
Hehe...I always feel special when I get paged, too.
We don't compete...it's just for fun! We go to dances a couple times a month. My town is really big on WCS, so there are lots of opportunities for it! ECS is fun, and I love the music, but it's tiring lol!
I would like to find some better WCS partners to dance with. I think that's where I've been lacking. The group that I usually dance with is mostly ECS. I've done some Blues dancing too, which is a lot of fun. Much less structured than ECS or WCS. You really do just have to follow your lead completely! No rock steps or settling steps unless he leads them.
G laughs at me because as soon as I decided to try to move up there, I looked up ECS groups to hang out with. Little does he know that he's going to need to learn how to keep up with me.
And ECS is tiring, but I like to use it as part of my weekly workout. We're actually going to a diner of Thursday that we go to once a month...it's a straight up 50's place, and we move tables out of the way and dance up a storm. Love it!
I've never done Blues, jive, shag, etc. Blues sounds like fun! The way that people do WCS around here, there's a lot of room for "playing" outside of the basic steps. That's what threw me about it at first--I wanted rules to follow, and it would mess me up when someone all of a sudden paused to hit an accent in the music or whatever. But it's one of my favorite parts about WCS now.
You should totally get G into it! I met BF at my dance studio, although he was a Zumba student at the time. I talked him into trying line dance, and he eventually decided to try WCS and other social/ballroom dance styles. He's totally into it now! My roommate is also a swing dancer, but she hasn't had quite as much success getting her BF into it, unfortunately.
That diner sounds like so much fun!
