Making this... NEED help!
I'm trying to make these yarn 'balloons'. I'm finding it ridiculously challenging.
I'm using elmer's glue, yarn and regular balloons.
I guess I'm struggling with the yarn sticking to the balloon and staying on. When I get it wrapped up and I stop to 'reglue' the yarn slips off and puddles on the floor.
What the heck am I doing wrong??
Also, I know the elmer's glue won't make it very stiff once dry. Is there a better glue or medium that I should use instead??

Sorry! I don't know how to make it clicky

Re: Making this... NEED help!
What about making it with paper mache paste (flour and water) rather than elmer's? or I think you can also use cornstarch and water. Although you might want to test to see if you end up with a 'powdery' color rather than a clear that the elmer's will give you.
Could you use some paperclips to hold things together until you get going with it and then remove them?
Good luck and post some pics when you are finished.
So, we just did something similar for our nursery...but we used embroidery thread. I'm sure the tutorial I used for that will help you with yarn too though.

I made those for my xmas ornaments for the crafty exchange.
Best tip is to saturate the yarn in a mixture of 2 parts Elmer's, 1 part water. Then, have a cup of normal Elmer's and a paint brush- spread it all the way around the balloon, tie the end to the end of the balloon and start to wrap, Then, let it dry a little bit, and go over it again with pure Elmer's. Let it dry for at least 24 hrs before popping the balloon, testing to make sure your yarn is firm. If it isn't firm enough, coat again with pure glue.
I did one coat after that and then dipped in glitter. They turned out beautifully!
The firmness of the yarn is actually your friend- many people use string but it isn't available in all of the colors. The firmness from the glue is what allows the string to hold its shape after the balloon is gone.
Stand up for something you believe in.
