One Year Old Bday Present?
Going to a one year old's birthday party on Saturday...no idea what to get her. What do one year olds want/need?
Re: One Year Old Bday Present?
I went to a 1 y/o bday in Nov.. I got him this http://www.target.com/p/Fisher-Price-Singin-Soccer-Ball/-/A-13045378 ...
probably not for a girl - I spent FOREVER in Target.

that is cute - i'd get that for a girl.. but i'm not a kid person so take my opinion FWIW
This is so cute for a girl or a boy.

Lila just received her first B-day present from DH's co-worker, a month early.. lol. H was talking to him about her party and he thought that it was last weekend. Anyway, he (his wife) bought her the cutest outfit and some girly colored Mega Blocks. I am very excited about the Mega Blocks... I know she is going to love them.
So far, I have bought her a small child's rocking chair and some turtle bath toys. Lila loves to play with toys in the tub. I also plan on buying her first doll baby. We are not going too crazy with toys though b/c we bought so much for Christmas.
ETA: I like Kim's idea of giving books. Books are so expensive, they are a nice gift that will last a long time.

That sounds cute. Yeah, I ended up asking what was on her wish list and the mom responded anything that makes noise. Did you just get it from Target or Toy R Us or somewhere like that?
Maisy has both of these (although her soccer ball is pink). She is only 10.5 months, but she definitely plays with the picnic set a little more. The ball requires a serious wack with an adult hand to sing, but she does like rolling it around.
Like Kim, I am fond of giving books and/or puzzles for a first birthday, but I will often first ask if there is anything in particular the child needs. I personally try to steer away from randomly selected toys, because I felt overwhelmed by all the toys that Beckett got for his first birthday. I found I really appreciated things like clothes, bath toys, outside toys and books and puzzles.
This is my BFF's daughter's favorite toy.
My daughter has that tea set and still uses it daily. She even sings the song now.

MacKenzie also really loves books and blocks. Little People are always a good choice as well. Another idea is a baby doll.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Will probably do the tea set and an outfit.
Ok, I'm late and it sounds like you've made a decision, but just wanted to add that the cool thing about getting books from other people is that you get books you haven't thought of.
Lily got tea sets around that age and she still plays with them all the time, so those are great.
One of my go-to gifts for smaller toddlers is a bubble set from Gymboree because they're awesome, but as a parent, I thought the price was a little ridiculous. It's only like $6, but it $6 bucks for bubbles? But I've later decided that it's worth it. The blower is easy enough for small kids, and Lily used to get really frustrated with regular bubbles. Plus regular bubbles would sting if she got some in her eyes, but not the Gymboree bubbles. And they last forever.
Wow, that was kind of a long plug for bubbles, lol.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
