Re: PG/Mom Check In

  • First of all - congratulations Kel!!

I am 23 weeks today and everything is going well still.  I have an appointment next Monday for 24 weeks.

This weekend we bought a few more things for the nursery at Ikea.  We got 3 skinny bookcases that we are making a U-shaped storage unit to surround the window.  I put one together so far and it was easy.  H is going to help me with the other two this weekend.  My mom is going to make a cushion to go on the bottom one so it will double as a window seat.  I also found a rug.  So things are coming along in there!

I am still feeling pretty good - just exhausted.  Baby B is a kicker.. I can't imagine how much stronger he will get in there.  Sometimes I think he's like a mutant baby and trying to kick his way out of me or something.  :)

  • MrsShawana...we are almost due date buddies.

I'm almost 24 weeks feeling great! This little guy is a kicker as well and I love that I'm able to feel him much more than Nic.  A bunch of my friends have had their babies early so I get a little scared as I get closer to 30 weeks that this little guy will also make an early appearance.  I hope not and he cooks for as long as needed.

No updates on the nursery b/c I'm not sure what we are doing yet.  We have a small townhouse and the guest bedroom would need to be converted but we have visitors all the time.

  • Thursday I have another a/s. They couldn't see everything they needed to see last time.
We will be signing up for birthing class this week.
Also, H gets these reward points with a vendor he uses at his work. They have a lot of baby things we can get. I spent a lot of time this weekend, pouring over the options. I'm torn between a car seat that is almost the one we want, but smaller or get a few smaller things (PNP, bouncer, other accessories). I think I'm going to go with a few of the smaller things? WDYT?

  • Don't think I mentioned anything about telling our parents yet on here.  But that went really well.  They were all in shock.  The waitress who shot the video (we told the parents we were taking a picture and instead shot a video of us telling them) almost cried.  So it was really neat.

Feel the same as I have been, tired, bloated, etc.  Also waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom.

My parents also took the plunge and already got us some baby Lightning gear.  And when we went up to see my sister this weekend, she gave us some cute baby Gator gear.  This kid will like sports that's for sure.  Yes

  • Things are going well for me, at least the best they can.  M/S can go away any day now.  I have nausea all day, and threw up for the first time last night :(  We spent the weekend with our families.  We shared the news with DH grandma and grandpa.  They were very excited.  This will be the first great-grandchild in the family.  My parents gave us an early and some baby books.  My DH loves reading the Baby 411 book :)

We have our next ultrasound next Tuesday.  We plan on telling more family on the 18th when we visit again.

  • Evie is such a sweet baby and hardly cries, but her new thing is that she won't sleep in her bassinet.  She had been great in there for weeks, but the past few days she wakes up as soon as we put her down.  How do I fix this??  She'll sleep in our arms, sometimes in the swing.  Last night I put her in bed with us and she slept for almost 5 hours!  I loved that, but I'm not sure how I feel about co-sleeping.  Any ideas?

She's also really gassy.  Her daddy is too, so maybe it's genetic, but what might I be eating that's causing it?

Broccoli, cauliflower and dairy will cause gas in a baby. I was so upset when the Pedi told me that I had to stop eating broccoli. I am still nursing Lila but just recently started eating it again. I figured it was safe if they make broccoli and chesse baby food.

We also had the same problem with Lila around 4 or 5 months. It got to the point where when we would rock her to sleep, she would scream at the top of her lungs and when we placed her down, it had to be extremely gentle b/c she would wake up and start screaming again. That's when the Pedi told us that we had to move her into her own room and stop rocking her to sleep. It worked. Good luck!

  • I just got back from my 6week postpartum appointment and I am all healed up.  Uterus is back to normal.  I got a prescription for a progesteron only pill.  I have 19 lbs to lose to get back to my starting weight, but with my breastfeeding appetite that is not going to happen anytime soon.  My goal is by next May.  Although, I am going to the gym tonight for the first time since March!  Yayyyy!!!

Baby is doing great!  She's gaining weight like a champ.  I'm pretty sure she's the strongest baby ever, she is already doing mini pushups.  And the smile!  She makes my heart hurt in a good way.

My baby won't sleep in her bassinet either, or her crib.  She's not a fan of sleeping on her back in any form.  I  never thought I would be a co sleeper, I would have side-eyed it before I became a sleep deprived mom, but there have been many nights that is the only way I get any sleep and you have to do what you have to do to keep your health and sanity so you can care for your baby.  If I thought there was a .00001% chance I would hurt her in my sleep I wouldn't do it.  Anyway, if you are at all thinking of it read this article.  Good luck!

Have you tried swaddling her?  We bought a Miracle Blanket with DS (because it is idiot-proof and neither of us could get the handle on swaddling tight enough) and it helped because he felt like he was being "held".  He also had a bit of reflux so we would put him to sleep in his car seat (unbuckled) and then put the car seat inside his crib.  The slight incline in the car seat seemed to help and keeping him in the crib gave us peace of mind and started getting him used to the idea of sleeping in his own bed in his own room.  We slowly phased out the car seat and then the swaddling over time and by about 4 months he was sleeping fine in his crib.

DD2 didn't like the bassinet either (nor did DD1). So for the 1st couple months, she'd start out sleeping in her swing and end up in our bed. That was the only way I was getting any sleep (and I had already returned to work then). She also never liked sleeping on her back. Since She's her head control was good, at 4 months, I put her in the crib and let her sleep on her belly. That is how she sleeps now.

  • We had our hospital tour Saturday, just another step in making everything seem more imminent! My baby shower invites went out last week, my friend showed it to me, they turned out so cute...another Wow, this is really happening moment!  Today I had my 3-hr glucose test, wasn't horrible, hopefully the results will be fine.  I imagine I won't get them until my next appt on Monday.

My sister had her little girl on Friday, which was her due date. Abigail was 5lb 13oz and 20 inches long, so precious!

  • Kennedy is doing great.  She's kind of at a stand still with weight gain, but she's so active that I'm not worried about it.  She's really starting to move around more and trying hard to master forward crawling.  She's pulled up a few times, has almost mastered the pincer grasp, and started clapping.  I can't believe she's going to be ONE in less than two weeks!

I'm 15.5 weeks now, and we have our consult with the MFM doctor on Wednesday.  I'm a nervous wreck, but trying not to obsess over things.  I'm hoping we'll find out at least an idea of the gender, which would be really exciting! I'm feeling pretty good, just exhausted.  I think I probably need to increase my food and water intake, and I would feel better.

  • Nothing too much to report on either MacKenzie or Baby H's part.  I have been sleeping horribly and I am having very vivid dreams.  I am also dealing with a ton of stress at work and it is making this pregnancy even more tough.  I keep going back and forth with my H about being a stay at home mom because the stress is becoming extremely unbearable.  I wish that we were at a point where I could quit and stay home with my babies.  Oh well, hopefully soon enough...
  • Last week was quite eventful....

Mason smashed Brooke's finger in their bedroom door.  It started getting swollen and she would not stop crying so off to the Immediate Care we went.  Luckily the xrays showed no broken bones and the Dr saw no ligament damage.  Phew!  Just a bruise.  She was fine the next day.

I forgot to lock the water dispenser on the fridge.  Mason snuck out of their room where we were all playing and made his way to the kitchen.  He put his cup up to it and flooded the kitchen and soaked himself.  His explanation.... he wanted "more".  LOL

They both showed me how they can get on top of their little play table and stand up.  They are so proud of their accomplishments, while they give me more and more grey hairs....

Never a dull moment around here!

  • We hired a baby sitter and she came for the first time last Wednesday. I was nervous and ddin't fall aslepp till 10:30 (she came at 9:30) but I got 3 solid hours of sleep, so that was GREAT! She is coming back tomorrow at the same time. :) Zoe seemed happy and even took a 2 hour nap after she left. I had gotten so much good sleep that I didn't even fall asleep, although I did lie in bed for 2 hours. :)

She also went in KidCare at the Y while I worked out and that was ok. I guess they just have to get to know Zoe. She fell asleep in there, which shocked me! She got sick yesterday, and I am assuming it's from being around all those kids. She went to bed at 9 and woke up twice before midnight, but I put the humidifier on and she was fine after that. The first time she woke up I wasable to nurse her back to sleep. :)

I think my supply is dropping but I am ok with that. She is eating more and more solids and loves to drink water from her sippy cup. I have almost made it to my ultimate BFing goal of 1 year!! I am sooooo happy and proud that I have been able to BF her this long. Anything after is just bonus. My goal now is to just keep up with the morning and night feedings for a while and just see where it goes. I will continue to nurse her during the day and supplement with my frozen milk supply. :)

  • Not too much new. Still feeling pretty good, although a bit sore, swollen, tired...the usual. I have all my remaining doctors appointments (and my last ultrasound) scheduled now, so the end is in sight! Between getting onto the weekly appointment schedule, ultrasound, various classes, hospital tour, etc., February is going to fly by.

We've started making progress on the "nursery" (a/k/a corner of my bedroom) - got the furniture all set up, changing station organized, etc. I'm hoping to buy bedding this week and make something with her name on it to hang over the crib, and maybe start washing her clothes this weekend. I'm getting pretty excited to see it all start coming together!

  • Well, I guess Jr. is cozy.  Tomorrow I will be 38 weeks and unless the Dr. tells me something, it looks like this baby is in it for the long haul.  Work has been good about it, though, and has said that if I don't show up one morning then they figure that is the day I go into labor.  LOL!  This weekend we finished the nursery.  Here is the link to our pics on facebook.  I tried to attach them here but it wasn't working for me for some reason.

Nope. :) We're keeping her name completely under wraps until she's born. It's driving my mom crazy!

As it is, we still haven't fully decided - we are set on her first name for sure, but can't for the life of us decide on her middle name. We've got it narrowed down to 3!

Did you get a pump yet? I kinda wish I had gotten mine before Zoe was born. For the next kid, I'm taking it to the hospital with me! :) That sucks that you have to go back when the baby is only 6 weeks. :( I think 6 months should be the standard, unless of course you want to go back earlier.

Have you announced her name on here yet?

Nope. :) We're keeping her name completely under wraps until she's born. It's driving my mom crazy!

As it is, we still haven't fully decided - we are set on her first name for sure, but can't for the life of us decide on her middle name. We've got it narrowed down to 3!

It drove everyone nuts that we didn't share any othe names we were thinking of. Honestly, we didn't even know her name until she was a day and a half old! Ha ha!
