do you find that making baby food is more cost effective than buying? i was just discussing this with my mother.. so i wondered what you found.

we're having twins!
Re: **hallamb**
Um, I am just using what I have on hand or what we use regulary (at the moment) based on the wholesomebabyfood.com website for guidelines on when introduce things.
I guess, to answer your question I haven't seen any added cost yet. We've only done green beans, yams, bananas, (I will be making applesauce tonight), avocado....
One "batch" makes enough to fill an ice cube tray plus a little and I can't remember how many cubes my ice cube tray has but that makes 1 meal (once the cubes defrost I add cereal or breastmilk accordingly).
I feel like I'm rambling: Making baby food at this point is easy, cheap, and rewarding because I know he is getting good stuff!

I honestly haven't even priced baby food. I've only bought cereal and oatmeal. From glancing at formula that stuff is not cheap so he's still on the boob.
it's usually like 50-85cents a jar for baby food-- i guess you can spread it out between two meals when they're younger, but not so much when they're older. they way i see it as all the food that i would make for baby is pretty much the leftovers h and i wouldnt've eaten anyways...the odds and ends in the freezer, etc. mix it with bewb-milk, and voila. instant free meal for the baby

We got like 3 canisters of similac from the hospital as freebies and H asked if we should just throw it out since LO is still on the boob and I screamed no because that stuff is anywere from $20-30 each! We may need it eventually and the dates are good for awhile.
if you don't end up using it, i know a nestie on this board that currently uses similac and would probably really appreciate it.

I will be selfish a little longer (my supply is dropping) before offering it up for grabs. I will keep it in mind for sure though! Thanks for letting me know! But when you have your LO ask the hospital about freebies or samples or whatever...We got TONS of stuff. My favorite thing though was this amazing ginormous water bottle that doesn't sweat.
perfectly understandable to be selfish! i actually have a box that i was given before and i didn't give it to her either
. but if you *don't* use it, i know she'd be appreciative. i'm still waiting to see if i *can* BF.
i will def ask the hospital for freebies. i was also told to steal as many NB diapers as i could, lol.

Yes NB diapers, the stretchy disposable undies for yourself (they look nasty, but are sooooo comfortable those first days/week post partum. Also, ice packs, witch hazel, JUMBO pads, nipple cream...really any supplies. Our hospital said we could take anything that wasn't bottled, or bedding.
And good luck with trying to BF! There is definitely a learning curve, and the first 2 weeks SUCK. But it WILL get better!
i'll have to keep that website in mind for when my baby can eat 'real' food.
which won't be for a LONG time.
btw, i LOVE witch hazel.. what did you use it for? i use witch hazel on my face every single day.
My lady parts. I had an episiotomy because lil mans head was so flippin big that it helped with healing.
