The Voice- so how does the show work?

I just started watching (they lured me in post Super Bowl) and I get that they are building teams right now.

Then what? I heard one of the contestants mention not being sent home- is that something that the judges do or is it audience vote? Is one from each team sent home each week? How do the teams compete?

Break it down for me, would ya?

  • I think after the teams are made the judges send members of their teams home until it gets down to a certain number (10 maybe) and then audience votes.

  • From what I remember, after the teams are chosen from the blind audition, each coach picks two of their own team members each week to duel and then the coach chooses which one to kick off based on the duel.

Then after they get down to a certain number (4 or 2? I  think) on each team, the audience starts voting until they get to the winner.

  • What everyone else has said!!

I like the format because the judges control a LOT of what happens, and generally speaking, they know more than an audience member :)

    Same here.

I also love love love the blind auditions. It's so refreshing after watching AI for years (which I gave up instantly after the Voice started last year!) and seeing some people get in based more on their look than their voice and talent.
