Yellowstone/Montana

Has anyone been?  We are planning a trip with our tax return and DH picked there.  I can't protest too much since I am going away in summer on the cruise in Europe.

We would fly out and rent a car of course. oh and no camping, hotel/cabin is a must with 2 kids. TIA!!

Re: Yellowstone/Montana

  • I've been to yellowstone and grand teton national park, but I won't be any help with places to stay because I camped. Yellowstone was nice. We hiked a lot and watched nature. We obviously saw old faithful and the hot springs. We also went to a rodeo and went white water rafting. You might want to look at staying at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It was a really nice town and probably has lots of places to stay. You could then travel to both the grand tetons and yellowstone as both are close by. The mountain views were beautiful out west! I have a gorgeous picture of a sunset out there.

  • I've been and I can't remember where we stayed Bc it was almost 20 years ago but I would do a lot of research Bc I don't there there is much there for the kids to do. It's a lot of fly fishing, driving around looking at animals in their natural environment , etc.

DH is an avid fly fisherman, so that is one of the reasons for going.  Also to see the animals, and hike.

  • I have also hear you have to plan alot of the good stuff very far in advance as it books quickly.

  • I went to Yellowstone and all over that area on a geology trip in college. We stayed in the Old Faithful Lodge cabins, which are literally right next to Old Faithful. There were Bison walking around about 30 feet from our cabin. I don't remember much about the accommodations, but it was fine.

I agree with pp about trying out Jackson Hole and also seeing the Tetons if you can. Nothing I've seen quite matches how striking those mountains are!
