two kids, 2 and 7 and 2 adults that do not require a passport? we were looking at taking a vacation to a tropical place with the kids for 5 days. our budget for hotel and airfare is $3,200. we want a resort with lots to do for us and the kids, we were looking at the atlantis but we are not too thrilled with the review, any suggestions? we will be flying out of ny

    If you're looking at the Caribbean, unfortunately you do need a passport for those countries now.  Maybe Puerto Rico?  You don't need a passport for Puerto Rico since it is a U.S. territory.

    I was going to suggest Puerto Rico.  No customs, no passport, etc and it's very kid-friendly.

    USVI (st thomas, st john, st croix) and puerto rico are the only tropical islands that you can go without a passport. that budget might be tough. what time of year? have you considered a cruise out of NY down to the caribbean? I have a passport (and have had since i was about 5) so i've never had to check on the requirements but it might be a good $ saver as far as flights go and since you get on the boat in ny it's easy.

    also you can't go to the bahamas without a passport so the atlantis is out.

    I agree that a cruise is a good idea especially considering your budget--but be aware having a passport is "strongly recommended" though not required.

    these are all good suggestions, my husband and I have passports, we would just have to get passports for the kids which wouldnt be a problem, we were just trying to look at places first that do not require a passport before we looked at places that needed it. we are looking at going in may. $3,200 would be just for the hotel and airfare, our spending budget is seperate.
