Dishwasher help with cloudy dishes

Hello - I looked for a post about this but didn't find anything.  So I had been using Cascade liquid in my dishwasher and its doing a poor job.  I got some lemishine and starting adding that. I did the first wash empty per instructions.  Now I just add maybe a few tablespoons or more to the bottom.  I only have 1 cleaning compartment. I found that if I add alot of the lemishine then it works ok but still not great.  My glasses are super cloudy, dirty still and silverware is cloudy also.  So far from what I have read the Finish tablets work pretty well so I'm thinking of trying that with the lemishine.  Any other suggestions?  TIA.

Re: Dishwasher help with cloudy dishes

  • I use the cascade packet things + lemishine.  I only have one compartment too, so I put them both in there together.  It took a couple washes to get rid of the cloudiness, but now it works well!
  • Maybe try using powder instead of the liquid?

  • There's probably gunk in your dish washer. Clean it once with just vinegar, no dishes, and hopefully you can see an improvement!

    The pups!
  • I use lemishine powder + regular cascade powder -  the plain, not w/lemon (1 compartment), like PP it started to help after several cycles.  We have hard water (and no phosphate dish detergent in our state).
  • I use liquid cascade and have done the vinegar thing, as suggested by PP, as needed - once or twice over the last 3 years.  All is well w/ my dishes.

  • Thank for the tips! The change to phosphate free sucks.

  • We have really hard water and I was about to replace everything until I discovered LemiShine. I thought they were permanently etched. I put it detergent compartment, to the full line. I put detergent in the open pre-wash compartment (per LemiShine's instructions).

Try starting a cycle like that but stop the washer after 10 minutes and let it sit for a while. Or maybe let the affected dishes sit in the sinkful of hot water with dissolved LemiShine.

Also, I find the LemiShine rinse agent completely worthless. And you can buy the regular stuff much cheaper on Amazon. Look for food-grade (important) citric acid. It's the same thing!

  • Like you, I live in Phoenix. Sometimes I think we must just have VERY hard water, and as much as I am all for the environment, taking the phosphates out definitely put a damper in my sparkly clean glasses! :)
  • We either use seventh generation packets or cascade complete. We also have finish liquid rinse agent. A rinsing agent is really important to get that cloudy stuff off... Hope that helps!

  • I used to have really cloudy dishes as well but then we got a water softner and havent had any issues since. It's expensive but it's so much better for your pipes and appliances as well.
  • I used to have the same problem and I started adding white vinegar to the bottom of my dishwasher before running it. I add about 3/4 of a cup and also put it in where the rinse aid usually goes. My dishes and my dishwasher have been residue free since I started adding it to all the loads.
