DH and I just did our taxes last night. We use Turbo Tax... just wondering what others do. We also don't own a home, have rental properties, etc which I think would have us use an accountant.

Re: Poll: Taxes
We usually use TaxAct but I usually check another site like Turbotax for a gut check. TaxAct was only $12.95 this year if you watched a commercial before they aired it during the Superbowl.
For the ones above that are nervous about buying a home or getting married and doing your taxes, I promise it's so easy! It walks you through everything step by step and some of the first questions are "Did you get married this year?", "Did you have a kid?", "Did you buy a house?", etc.

DH and I file seperately since he has the business, that way we can keep my stuff more personal/family and his stuff more business.
I use TurboTax and claim Zachary, it was so easy to use when we got married, then had a kid, and then got the HSA, that I wouldn't be afraid to use it if we bought a house.
DH pays someone to do his taxes because they are much more complicated.
I used to do our taxes with Turbo Tax, then I just got sick of doing them. We go to a local guy recommended by my parents. He only charges $50 and he's really quick with them.
I do them with TurboTax. I wouldn't be opposed to other software, but I like that our previous information is stored and it reminds me of everything I need to include.
Though I'm angry this year because we are going to owe. For some reason, my last employer (where I left in August) did not withhold any taxes when I was part time for part of the year last year. I never once talked to anyone about changing my withholdings. I have no idea why it happened.
Grr.
It varies each year depending on what occured during the previous year. We also do them online first and decide if it is more beneficial to file joint or separate.
If we file jointly, then we forward to a professional
If we file separate, we use Turbo Tax or HR Block online
I said SS because we have a professional do them, but since he's my father he does them for free, which is incredibly sweet.
Tax time always stings because I'm a part owner in a family business, and income shows up on my taxes that I never actually see. I never get refunds, I ALWAYS owe. However, dad said that should change for 2012 taxes since I'm having a baby. He told me the other day "That's a valuable little dependent you're carrying" lol.
I hope that's true for you. It usually is. I was all excited to do our taxes last year with Jane on them (we ALWAYS owe). and we still owed $12K. It was not a happy day in our house.
LOL! Hopefully it does change for you in 2012. We've always received refunds, but they jumped up a pretty penny once adding kids, especially when we went from 1 kid to 2!
Last year was great for us because we went from having 1 kid to 3!!!! We get a big chunk due to our student loans, child care, and having the kids!
