Potty Training with cloth

I feel like we've been dragging out the potty training but I'm not sure what to do. Currently, we keep DD in her BG's and just ask her if she has to go or she'll tell us. She does pretty good most of the day with no accidents. During her nap she always seems to poop so I'm not ready to get rid of them during nap or nighttime yet. She pees before bed, but it is still soaked in the morning.

I've considered just going to the regular undies, or the Potty Patty''s. I'm just not sure what step to take next and I feel like until we do she wont. Help?!

Re: Potty Training with cloth

  • I'm no help because when we started to potty train we just switched to Pullups... partly because we were living with the ILs... partly because we were at camp and didn't have easy access to a washer.  But I would say to just switch to undies... I wish we had, but MIL is a wimp and has them for the majority of the day and wouldn't have gone for it so unfortunately I had to follow her.

  • We tried pull-ups, we tried cloth training pants, we tried underwear...none of it worked until DD decided she was ready to train.

DD still wears a pull-up at naptime and a diaper overnight. You can't train for overnight, that's just something they need to grow into.

  • When we figured out that Eli was ready and officially started potty training we went to only regular underwear during the day. We used a waterproof cover over them when we went out and during naps for the first month or so in case of an accident. Now he just has regular underwear during naps as well.

We have been doing pullups at night, mostly because I didn't want to have just 1 cloth diaper per day to wash. He wakes up dry every morning, so he really could just do regular underwear at night too, but I think we'll stick with pull ups at night until after the baby comes in case he regresses (plus I stocked up on them with coupons and a sale, so I have a bunch to use up.) We usually have him wear a pull up more than once since they never get wet and we take it off as soon as he wakes up.

  • We do underwear, except for sleeping time, if we're going someplace or if we have company over that would distract him.  It's going very well! :)

  • Abby's wearing underoos during the day when we're home.  Although she asks to wear them each morning, I haven't yet made the switch to day care yet.    So far, it's been working pretty well.   We set a timer to remind her to go.  I like the waterproof cover idea when we're out to prevent soaking through.  We just need to take the plunge and do it.
