I got a friend to commit to the 5k, this is the first "race" of any kind I will be doing. I'm excited and also nervous. We are doing it just for fun and not competitively, and I've run 5k only a few times since I started running a month ago. I feel like the next few months will give me plenty of time to feel ready. I hope.
Tips? Anyone else doing this? DH's aunt is a state trooper and she wanted me to run the full 25k with her. I had to laugh, I can't imagine being ready for that anytime soon!
Re: 5/3 Riverbank Run
Yay!
You'll have a great time. If you've already run 5 km, you'll be completely fine for the actual race. The one disadvantage to that particular 5k (I ran it a few years ago), is that it is huge and the race course can get crowded at times (like when you cross the narrow 6th street bridge). And yes, you have plenty of time to be fully prepared for a 5k.
I would love to run the 25k again this year, but devoting the time to training is just too much along with balancing school and, you know, seeing my husband. That is the weekend immediately following finals for me and we have a little getaway planned.
If you can already manage the 5K distance, why not register for the 10K and add a little element of challenge to it?

I'm sure there are. That's a great time to run, weather-wise.
The Crim is in Flint the 3rd weekend in August I believe
Because I'm not consistently "there" yet with the 5k. And I don't want to overdo it. And I'm lame :P
But we are doing the Crim (in Flint) 8k this summer. This 5k is just getting 1 race under our belts first.
Yeah I've heard it's a cluster. I'll probably trip right off the start and then it will be over for me lol. I'm so clumsy!

YAY for getaways. Sounds like MUCH more fun that running 25k IMO
Spoken like an addicated runner.
Give the girl a break, this is her first 5k.
Good luck training.
Yay - you will do great! If you can run a 5K now, it'll just get easier as you train up until race day. Like DP said, since it's a busy race it's a good one to do for fun (not to set a PR necessarily) due to the crowding.
And Wop, there are PLENTY of face in the late summer/fall. I'd guess there's an event of some sort almost every weekend w/in an hour drive of GR. 10K training doesn't have to take that much time too either - 3 runs a week/maybe a total of 2.5 or 3 hours would probably get you there. :-)
I thought the Crim is usually in July. I totally want to run the 10miler sometime. And from what I understand, the Crim almost certainly will coincide with the hottest, most humid day of the year
I need someone to help motivate me! Haha. I'd like to find someone to run with. I like to be home after work to spend time with Renee until she goes to bed most days. She's usually sleeping 7:15-7:30. I could do a run right after work once or twice a week, and on Saturday's until mid March when I start working weekends. If the gym wasn't so busy I'd be there more often, but to avoid the crowd I have to wait until 8:00 at night and by then I've lost my motivation. I'm lame
I really need to get back in it.
It is scheduled for Aug 25, 2012.
I stand corrected.
Yes, august. Because it isn't hot enough for the Crim in July!
Being half right has to count for something!
Late August seems later than what I remember. I Googled Crim Race 1994 and they showed a late August date. So maybe it was always August.
The Buick Open used to be in July and I know it used to be after that.
