I'm looking into our late summer/early fall vacation. We're looking at spending 5 nights in the french riviera and 5 nights in London. I'm trying to decide between Nice, St-Tropez, and Cannes. We are looking to do London first, and then french riviera for the second half for some relaxing beach time and obviously explore the area.
Any recommendations for where to stay? I'd love to have a beach view.

Re: French Riviera Recs
I loved Nice, I will never ever stop dreaming about their Farmer's Market.
Nice's beach is pebbly, be aware, but it has nice clubs that will rent you chairs and umbrellas and serve drinks and stuff. I've not been to St. Tropez or Cannes.
I also hear that Aix-en-Provence is gorgeous.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Nice is beautiful, and you can easily visit Cannes from there via train. You can also visit Villefrance, Antibes, Juan les Pins, Monaco, and some other towns, all within a 30-minute bus or train ride. So I recommend Nice for the central location!
Nice is a great location......lots to see and do, but the water is also right there, so you can easily get around everywhere and do as little/as much as you want. Lots of great restaurants and as others said you can use it as a base to get other places. I have some things in my blog from Nice (I went with my high school students, so keep that in mind)...the hotel we stayed at was nice and very centrally located.....the link is below and the entries are France Day 1 and 2.
Someone else mentioned Aix-en-Provence....Aix is gorgeous, but I wouldn't consider it part of the French Riviera...it's part of Provence, which is a different region (it's further north).
