WWYD...Las Vegas

Dh gets to travel a lot of work. He just found out he has a conference in LV March 21-23 and he is allowed to bring his spouse. Well I asked my mom to watch G, but it doesn't sound like she is going to.

My other thought was it would be nice just to get away and bring G. I know it's Las Vegas so we wouldn't experience it. But is there anything to do with a kiddo there (children's museum, zoo, etc?). I know I probably sound crazy and I doubt I'll bring her but we could all really use a vacation and since this is all paid for I hate to pass it up. We'd be staying at the Venetian, if that helps. Have I just lost my mind?? Yes, probably. But I thought I'd ask just in case....

My fingers are still crossed my mom will change her mind and watch G, but I'm not holding my breathe.

Re: WWYD...Las Vegas

  • I would take her! I think it would be fun. You could swim at the pool, buffets are kid friendly....shopping (if she likes riding in a stroller). I'm sure she'd love the shows at the bellagio and other places.

  • And by shows, I mean like the water fountain show.

  • We were there a few years back and loved it! I think you could easily take her with you unless of course you just want it to be the 2 of you! There are lots of things to walk around and see that can be done without spending lots of $$. There are lions in MGM, a wildlife/bird habitat at the Flamingo, at a pirate show at Treasure Island, fountains at Bellagio and neat kid friendly displays inside, and there is shopping everywhere. There were lots of people dressed in costume inside the Forum Shops attached to Caesars Palace. The music and gondola rides go through the Venetian. We saw quite a few children watching the boats go by. Just thinking of the fun things we saw/did makes me want to go back!!

  • If you can't find someone to watch her, I think it would be okay to take her.  I'm kind of anti-kid for Vegas because there is SO much inappropriate stuff to be seen just walking down the street, but she is young enough that she won't notice it or remember it.  Plus, you can't pass up a paid trip!  The Venetian is one of my favorite hotels to walk through.  March would probably be nice enough to sit out by the pool, and there are plenty of shopping places to take her (one is in the Venetian).  I doubt I would go out at night.

There is an animal habitat with dolphins and big cats at the Mirage that is small, but she would probably like it.  There is a big aquarium display at Mandalay Bay, and the Bellagio always has some kind of flower/plant display that is awesome.  I'm sure there is more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I have a friend who lives in Vegas and has a 3 year old.  I can ask her about other stuff to do.  You would have to rent a car to get to that stuff, though.  Let me know if you want me to send her a message!

  • Not totally the same, but the first time I went to Vegas, I was in 6th grade, SO there are tons of kid types of things there, I think they want a family type of vibe for some.
  • My DH has 3 sisters that live in Vegas.  One has younger twins.  If you end up taking G, I could contact them and ask for ideas of things to do.

I agree with CyGal - I'd take her.  A vacation is a vacation - and a free vacation is even better :)

  • I'd take her just for the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. It's awesome!

Chilling by the pool and shopping doesn't sound too bad to me.  :)

  • I could have spent hours watching the lions at MGM.  There's also the Secret Garden at the Mirage.  If I remember admission was kind of high, so it might not be the best with a little one -  but there are (more) big cats and there were Dolphins, too.

This! We are 11 hours from Vegas (which DH loooooves and I am usually pretty lucky at the slots) and I have already researched what we can do with kids there. There really is a lot! Zoo, the tigers, dolphins, aquarium...

PS-I was there in March years ago and it was too cold to swim.  :(

  • Now you all make me want to just say screw finding someone to watch G! I want to take her now! Thank you guys, I'll keep ya updated on what we do! I'll also be asking for you guys to ask you family about things to do. I'll probably make a big list so we are never bored, especially while DH is doing business!

  • Someone mentioned admission being pricey. Check into Groupon, Living Social, Restaurant.com and the like for Vegas deals now. You might find something good to use!
